Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 5 GIRLS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Annie Heffernan, Cincinnati St. Ursula (VOTE)
Junior holds Ohio’s fastest times this spring in the mile (4:47.60), 1,600 (5:00.03) and 3,200 (10:25.41). Her most recent conquest was winning the 3,200 and 1,600 at the Walnut Hills Dehart Invitational. Heffernan’s time in the 3,200 is a full 22 seconds better than Ohio’s second fastest time, while her mile time is a full 14 seconds better.
*Johanna Ragland, Lutheran West (VOTE)
Remained unbeaten and swept both the shot put and discus at an invite for the fourth time this spring when she won both at Independence’s Dan Potopsky Invitational with thrwos of 39-6 and 122-6, respectively. The 122-6 was a PR.
*Taylor Baker, Paint Valley (VOTE)
Senior won the shot put and discus events at both the Vinton County and Huntington invitationals.
*Kaylyn Goshe, Seneca East (VOTE)
Senior set the school record in the discus during a tri-meet with a throw of 130-0. Went on two sweep the discus and shot put at the Margaretta Invite.
*Carris Reese, Lakota (VOTE)
Won the 100 hurdles (16.33), 300 hurdles (48.81) and pole vault (9-0) at the Fostroia Dick Shultz Invitational.
*Kaylee Antill, Tri-Valley (VOTE)
Junior broke the meet record in the discus (142-9) at the Marietta Noon Lions Invitational. Also won the shot put (39-5).
*Jelvon Butler, Solon (VOTE)
Won the 100 (12.26), 200 (24.83) and 800 relay (1:45.12) at the 34th annual 34-team Optimist meet at Austintown-Fitch. Also part of third place 400 relay.
*Jail’ Lyn Mosley, McDonald (VOTE)
Won the discus at the 34th annual 34-team Optimist meet at Austintown-Fitch with a PR throw of 157-5. That mark is also the farthest throw in the state this spring.
*Jordan Porter, Chesapeake (VOTE)
Senior set a PR and won the Arthur Lydiard Classic with a heave of 47-10.5 in the shot put. The mark, which was also a meet record and a full 15-feet better than second place, is the state’s farthest to date.
*Allyson Simmons, Fairless (VOTE)
Senior recorded the top pole vault mark in the state this spring when she cleared 12.9.5 to set a PR and win the Tusky Valley Invitational. Simmons is undefeated in the event this spring.
WEEK 5 GIRLS TRACK & FIELD TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
Eagles won the 15-team Braves Invitational hosted by Whetstone. Watterson (76.5 points) was one of three teams to score in the 70s, edging Whetstone (72) and Eastmoor (70).
Won the team title at the Fostoria Dick Shultz Invitational. The Reynolds twins – Kendall and Colleen – help lead the charge by finishing first or second in the 100, 200 and 400 and teaming with Selena Alejandro and Isabel Del Toro to win the 400 relay. Kendall edged Colleen to win the 100 and 200, while Colleen won the 400. Kendall’s 100 time of 12.66 was a new meet record.
The Scotties won the 17-team Marietta Noon Lions Invitational with an 83-69 win over runner-up John Marshall.
The Comets dominated the 34-team Optimist Meet hosted by Austintown-Fitch. Solon almost doubled-up runner-up Warren Harding (120-62).
The Bulldogs won the 14-team Arthur Lydiard Classic hosted by South Point with a convincing 150-80 win over runner-up Gallia Academy.
*Toledo Notre Dame (VOTE)
The Eagles won the 21-team Roosevelt Memorial Relays hosted at Welcome Stadium. ND scored 152 points to outdistance runner-up Beaumont, which had 135.
*Grove City (VOTE)
Greyhounds won the 14-team Anthony Wilson Invitational at Franklin Heights with a 129-95 win over runner-up Central Crossing.
*Thomas Worthington (VOTE)
Cardinals won their won 13-team Gary Smith Worthington invitational. TW scored 152 points, while Watkins Memorial was second with 133.50.
*Marion Local (VOTE)
Flyers won the 13-team New Bremen Cardinal Invitational with a 99-93 win over runner-up Coldwater.
The Comets won the 16th annual 50-team Wayne Invitational with a 90.6-78 victory over runner-up Gahanna Lincoln. Centerville was third (77) and Wayne fourth (75).
