Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 5 BOYS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Ethan Douglass, River Valley (VOTE)
Won four events at Upper Sandusky’s Gerald Swankhouse Invitational. Won the 100 (11.05) and 200 (23.05) and anchored the winning 400 (43.94) and 800 (1:30.65) relays.
*Wade Barney, Vinton County (VOTE)
Junior won earned medalist honors at the Vinton County Invitational by winning the 100 (11.3), 200 (23.2), 400 (52.4) and long jump (20-6.75).
*Maurice Harris, Toledo St. Francis (VOTE)
Set PRs in both events and won the discus (184-10) and shot put (59-3.5) at the St. Francis Knight Relays.
*Collin Pouty, Tri-Valley (VOTE)
Senior broke the meet record in the discus (175-7) at the Marietta Noon Lions Invitational. Also won the shot put (49-1).
*Parris Campbell Jr., Sr., Akron SVSM (VOTE)
Senior ran the state’s fastest 100 meter time to date when he won the 34th annual 38-team Optimist Meet at Austintown-Fitch with a time of 10.47.
*Steele Wasik, St. Edward (VOTE)
Won the 100 hurdles (14.03) and 300 hurdles (37.78) at the 34th annual 38-team Optimist Meet at Austintown-Fitch. The 100 hurdle time is the fastest in the state to date, while the 300 time is second. .
*Jared Ballenger, Fremont Ross (VOTE)
Senior set a new PR in the discus and recorded the state’s longest throw to date when he won the Bellevue Elks Invitational with a heave of 190-5. Also won the shot put (52-6.25).
*Cole Gorski, Otsego (VOTE)
Senior won three events, including the pole vault where he recorded the state’s top vault this spring at 15-7. Also won the 100 (10.99) and 200 (21.72).
*Brad Montgomery, Lehman Catholic (VOTE)
Senior remained unbeaten in both the shot put and discus this spring by winning a meet with Bethel, Kenton Ridge, Miami East and Springfield Northwestern and the New Bremen Cardinal Invitational.
*Robert Landers, Wayne (VOTE)
Junior set PRs in the shot put (58-6.25) and hammer (196-6) en route to winning both events at the 16th annual Wayne Invitational. Was fourth in the discus with another PR (147-2)
WEEK 5 BOYS TRACK & FIELD TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Eastmoor Academy (VOTE)
The Warriors won the 15-team Braves Invitational hosted by Whetstone with a 91.5-58 win over runner-up Independence. Eastmoor won four events but placed in 13 out of 14.
For the first time in three years, the Panthers wont he 13-team Knight Relays hosted by Toledo St. Francis. Whitmer score 109 points to beat runner-up St. Francis, which finished with 96.83.
The Scotties won the 17-team Marietta Noon Lions Invitational with a convincing 108-84 win over runner-up Marietta.
The Comets won the 38-team 34th Optimist Meet hosted by Austintown-Fitch. Solon scored 72.50 points to outdistance runner-up St. Edward (57).
*Dayton Dunbar (VOTE)
Wolverines won the 20-team Roosevelt Memorial Relays held at Welcome Stadium by scoring 123 points to runner-up and Michigan school Oak Park’s 107. Gary (Ind.) West Side was third.
*Franklin Heights (VOTE)
Falcons won their own 14-team Anthony Wilson Invitational by scoring 118 points to runner-up Grove City’s 89.
*Watkins Memorial (VOTE)
Warriors won the 14-team Gary Smith Worthington Invitational with a 144-124.50 win over runner-up St. Ignatius.
*Gahanna Lincoln (VOTE)
The Lions won the 17-team Ohio All-Star Invitational at Hamilton Township with 115 points. Hilliard Bradley was second with 99.
*Pickerington North (VOTE)
The Panthers won the two-day 16th annual 50-team Wayne Invitational with an 82-68 victory over the hosts.
*Ashland Crestview (VOTE)
Cougars won the 13-team Mapleton Invitational with a 103-87 edge over runner-up New London. Crestview finished fist or second in all four relays and swept the hurdle events.
