Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 3 SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Kendall Meeks, Alexander (Vote)
Sophomore had a big game on the mound and at the plate in an 8-0 win over Nelsonville-York. Meeks threw a complete game shutout and struck out seven. She also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a HR, four RBIs and two runs scored. In an 11-3 win over Logan, Meeks picked up the pitching win, hit four singles and had three RBIs. In a 4-2 loss to Miegs she had a two-run HR.
*Cheyenne Harris, Alliance (Vote)
Had five hits, two HRs, five runs scored, four RBIs and a double in a 14-6 win over Marlington.
*Hayley Hurd, Waterloo (Vote)
Senior K’d 17 and picked up a complete game win in a 7-2 victory over Rootstown. At the plate she had a HR, two singles and three RBIs.
*Tara Thacker, North Canton Hoover (Vote)
Senior threw a five-inning no-hitter in a 15-0 win over Uniontown Lake.
*Lexi Handley, Akron SVSM (Vote)
Sophomore threw a complete-game two-hit shutout and K’d 18 in a nine-inning 1-0 win over Canal Fulton Northwest.
*Emily Beck, Massillon Perry (Vote)
Hit two HRs out of Firestone Stadium in Akron (and had three RBIs) in a 13-2 win over Garfield Heights.
*Grace Edwards, Reedsville Eastern (Vote)
Threw a complete game one-hitter in a 12-0 win over Trimble. Also hit two triples and had five RBIs.
*Sarah Miller, Steele (Vote)
Freshman hit two HRs and had a triple and five RBIs in an 8-4 win over medina.
*Sidney Melton, Hartley (Vote)
Senior shortstop and Louisville recruit batted .714 (10 for 14) with three HRs, a triple, six RBIs, six runs scored and two stolen bases as the Hawks went 2-2 against four Division I opponents.
WEEK 3 SOFTBALL TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Teays Valley (Vote)
The Vikings handed nationally-ranked Bloom-Carroll its first loss of the season, 2-0, in Mid-State League Buckeye Division play. B-C, which entered ranked No. 10 in the country by MaxPreps and No. 15 by USA Today, was held to three hits.
*North Canton Hoover (Vote)
After their first two batters grounded out, the three-time defending D-I state champions scored 10 runs on 10 hits in the first inning of a 15-0 win over Uniontown Lake. Senior Jenna Lilley hit two first-inning triples and had three RBIs.
The Blue Devils handed Arlington its first loss by rallying from a 2-0 deficit with four sixth-inning runs en route to a 4-2 win.
*Holland Springfield (Vote)
The Blue Devils scoed a 6-1 win over previously unbeaten New Riegel (which entered 10-0).
*Upper Scioto Valley (Vote)
The Rams beat Ridgemont 16-12 for their first victory since 2009.
The Warriors went 6-0 last week to remain unbeaten and improve to 14-0. Lebanon beat Xenia (two),Springfield, Edgewood, Kings and Milford by the combined scored of 51-3. Lebanon is also 4-0 in GWOC South Division play and has outscored its league opponents 42-0.
The Elks improved to 13-0 by going 6-0 last week with wins over Beavercreek (two), Kings, Edgewood and Butler (two).
Remained unbeaten (10-0) with a doubleheader sweep of Coventry. Kelly Hysong allowed one-hit and K’d 14 in a 2-0 win. In the ensuing 7-3 win, Hysong had three hits and four RBIs.
