Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 2 SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Ashlee Dahman, Amherst Steele (Vote)
Went 4-for-4 with a HR, three doubles and seven RBIs in a 9-0 win over Avon.
*Ashley Trottier, Northmont (Vote)
Sophomoe leads the GWOC in RBIs with 19. Also leads team in batting average (.452), hits (19), runs (11), doubles (four) and triples (two).
*Emily McKillip, Springfield Shawnee (Vote)
Is 9-0 so far with 67 Ks and a 1.02 ERA. Tied for team lead in batting average (.531) and RBIs (13).
*Bailey Miller, Glen Este (Vote)
Senior pitcher threw a no-hitter in a five-inning 13-2 win over Anderson.
*Taylor Rahach, Walsh Jesuit (Vote)
Struck out 15 and threw a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over Ashtabula Jefferson.
*Maddy Laddy, Laurel (Vote)
Went 3-for-5 with six RBIs in a 20-9 win over Cleveland Central Catholic.
*Cerena Woodgeard, Berne Union (Vote)
Threw a perfect game and struck out 13 in a 10-0 win over Tree of Life.
*Taylor Kirian, New Riegel (Vote)
Blue Jackets ace picked up six wins last week to improve to 9-0 on the season. She also went 11-for-18 at the plate with 11 RBIs, nine runs scored, three doubles, a triple and a HR.
*Miranda Benschoter, Elmwood (Vote)
Worked 10 no-hit innings in wins over North Baltimore and McComb on Saturday. Threw a seven-inning no-hitter against NB and teamed with jasmine Marsh in a five-inning 11-1 win over McComb. Benschoter struck out 22 on the day to up her season total to 55. She’s batting .789.
*Alicia Hansen, Fenwick (Vote)
Through five games senior leads the GCL in batting average (.806), hits (25), HRs (eight), RBIs (36), doubles (eight), triples (three) and runs scored (29). She’s second in stolen bases (10).
WEEK 2 SOFTBALL TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
The Warriors snapped defending state champion North Canton Hoover’s 51-game winning streak with a 3-1 win at the 21st annual Wendy’s Classic in Ashland. Lebanon’s Tara Trainer picked up the win (K’d 12). As a freshman, Trainer lost to NCH in the D-I state final. Lebanon also had wins over Elyria, Akron Springfield and Miamisburg (two).
*Old Fort (Vote)
The Stockaders went 5-1 last week and won their five games (Fremont St. Joe, Genoa, Port Clinton and two vs. Danbury) by a combined score of 62-13.
The Blue Aces handed previously unbeaten Johnstown-Monroe a 7-6 setback after 13 innings. Sarah Imhoff got the game-winning RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Granville followed that up with a 1-0 win over Hebron Lakewood. In that game the winning run was scored by Danielle Wolgamot who reached based by getting hit by a pitch.
*New Riegel (Vote)
Blue Jackets improved to 9-0 with six wins last week.
*Springfield Shawnee (Vote)
Braves improved to 9-0 with wins over Tecumseh, ben Logan, Indiana Lake and Springfield (two).
*Lakota West (Vote)
Improved to 5-0 by winning its four games (over Sycamore, oak Hills, Middletown and Hamilton) by the combined score of 36-2.
The Indians won four games to run their win streak to five. Throw out it’s only loss this season (5-0 to Lebanon) and Fairfield has outscored opponents 69-7.
