Bucknuts & JJHuddle Ohio HS Weekly Spring Awards
This spring we are pleased to announce that JJHuddle and Bucknuts have partnered together to award weekly player and team of the week honors in baseball, softball, girls track, boys track, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse.
Each week during the spring sports seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Team and Player of the Week in each sport. Each weekly winner will receive an award from JJHuddle and Bucknuts.
How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in each sports JJHuddle Forum each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.
WEEK 1 GIRLS TRACK & FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
*Brandi Johnson, Sidney (Vote)
Finished first in four events at Sidney’s own Joe Ward Track Inviational. Johnson finished first in the 100 (13.55), 200 (27.95) and long jump by nearly a foot-and-a-half (16-feet, 3.5 inches). Also ran leg on winning 400 relay.
*Jenna Shipman, Mount Gilead (Vote)
Sophomore was awarded the Wes Schertzer award as the meet’s top individual performer at Ridgedale’s Dave Schorr Invitational. Shipman finished first in all four events she ran, including the 3,200 relay, which she anchored.
*Abby Wilson, Carrollton (Vote)
Swept the shot put (40-0.5) and discus (111) at Union Local’s Doan Ford Invitational.
*Alexis Gray, Solon (Vote)
Swept the shot put (40-8) and discus (127) at Collinwood’s Maralyn West Invitational.
*Daija Young, Trinity (Vote)
Swept the shot out (40-0.5) and discus (124-9) at Mineral Ridge’s Joe Lane Invitational.
*Athena Eli, Oak Harbor (Vote)
Named MVP at Sandusky Perkins’ Pirate Invitational after finishing first in three events (400, 800 relay and 3,200 relay) and second (1,600 relay) in a another.
WEEK 1 GIRLS TRACK & FIELD TEAM OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
Captured the team title at their own Carey Blue Devil Relays by the slimmest of margins. Despite winning just three events, Carey outscored Riverdale 114-113 in the team standings.
*Mount Gilead (Vote)
The Indians won nine events en route to winning the team title at Ridgedale’s David Schorr Memorial Invitational.
*Thomas Worthington (Vote)
The Cardinals won eight events and the team title at Fairfield Union’s Falcon Invitational. TW scored 135 points to runner-up FU’s 105.
*Gahanna Lincoln (Vote)
The Lions tamed the 16-team field at Hilliard Davidson’s Wildcat Premier by winning the team title in convincing fashion. Gahanna scored 147 points, while HD finished second with 91.
The Comets dominated at the 13-team Maralyn West Invitaional hosted by Collinwood. Solon scored 233 points, while runner-up Magnificat was second with 137.
*Sandusky Perkins (Vote)
The host Pirates survived Oak Harbor – barely – to win the second annual Pirate Invitational. Perkins had 114 points to Oak Harbor’s 113.
