Box Score

All great teams make a run and convert free throws in the clutch, and Convoy Crestview is a great team. The Knights quickly erased a (24-19) halftime deficit thanks to a quick 9-0 spurt that stretched back to the closing moments of the opening half and nailed 14-of-17 freebies in the 4th quarter to hold on for a well-earned, 54-50, triumph of an outstanding Tri-Village (26-2) outfit.

026_contentSenior Damian Helm, the team’s leading scorer, was held without a field goal, but did manage to bury six clutch free tosses in the final quarter. Helm finished the game 10-of-10 from the charity stripe.

After scoring just a single bucket in the first 16 minutes, senior Tyson Bolenbaugh went to work in the 3rd quarter scoring five points, blocking a key shot, and giving the Knights an energy boost. The senior scored six more points in the final frame, and finished the contest with 15 points and eight rebounds.

The stingy Crestview’ defense didn’t allow a single field goal in the 3rd quarter allowing it to take a (34-28) lead into the final frame. The Knights were able to make more shots in the 2nd half, which allowed them to full court pressure making life miserable for the Patriots.

Tri-Village shot 50 percent from the field in the 1st half, but cooled off to just 38 percent in the 2nd. In all, the Patriots were held to just 12 points over the middle two quarters.

New Madison Tri-Village dominated the game in the paint the entire 1st half giving up just two buckets inside the arc, and holding unbeaten Convoy Crestview to just 5-of-20 shooting. Senior Tyler Cook and junior Damion Cook proved to be too much in the paint on both ends of the floor with their size and more importantly strength.

Despite a woeful 1st half, the Knights only trailed (24-19) at the half thanks to a 6-of-6 showing at the free throw line.

Senior Cam Etzler tallied 13 points, which included seven in the 1st half when the Knights (28-0) were struggling mightily. Talented and confident sophomore Connor Lautzenheiser played very well scoring seven points, which included a gutsy drive-in basket during crunch time.

Senior Tyler Cook played a terrific game in his final contest for the Patriots scoring 20 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and handing out four assists. Junior Damion Cook added 16 points and nine rebounds. Junior Colton Linkous scored just eight points only taking five shots for a kid that averages nearly 20 points per game. Junior Mason McCabe chipped in six points.
