Ohio National Guard JJH Player of the Week

JJHuddle is proud to announce that the Ohio National Guard will again sponsor the ONG JJHuddle Player and Team of the Week awards in Football and Basketball during the 2013-2014 school year.

Each week during the football, boys basketball and girls basketball regular seasons, we will hold a fan-generated contest on JJHuddle to tab a weekly Ohio National Guard Ohio Team and Player of the Week. Each weekly winner will receive an award (a banner) from the National Guard.

How it works?
A thread soliciting nominations will be posted/stuck in the JJHuddle Basketball Forums each week. Fans will then nominate top performances. We will announce the weekly finalists (up to 10) on JJHuddle every Monday and voting will be conducted in a special JJHuddle forum. Voting will cease at noon on Friday, after which the winners will be announced.

Week 8 Nominees: Vote Now

J.J. Kukura, Alliance: Senior scored 31 points in a 72-57 win over West Branch to become his school’s all-time leading scorer. Added 34 points in a 68-60 win over Salem and 31 in a 68-59 win over Canton South to up his total to 1,417 points. Kukura currently ranks 14th all-time in Stark County scoring. He could move into the Top 10 this week.

Caleb Poland, Milton-Union: Senior scored 12 points and surpassed 1,000 for his career in a 54-31 win over Newton. Poland ranks second (behind Franklin’s Luke Kennard) in the SWBL in scoring (24.2 ppg).

Janston Locke, Minerva: Senior scored 32 points and surpassed 1,000 for his career in a 66-60 loss to Louisville. Locke made four 3s and was 14-of-17 from the foul line.

Kevin Vannatta, Upper Arlington: Senior and UNC-Wilmington recruit became the fourth player in school history to reach 1,000 career points when he scored 19 in a 58-35 win over Hilliard Davidson. Also scored 21 points in a 60-48 win over Central Crossing.

Frank Catrine, Fenwick: Senior surpassed 1,000 career points in a 53-50 loss at Alter. Added 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 46-42 win over Badin.

Matt Beech, Stow: Senior netted 19 points and surpassed 1,000 for his career in a 47-32 win over host Hudson.

Isaiah Jones, Cincinnati Woodward: Senior PG scored 32 points and hit eight 3s in a win over Shroder. Also had 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in a win over Withrow and 19 points in a win over Taft. Averaging 21.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 3.3 assists. Currently being courted by West Virginia, Eastern Michigan and Morehead State.

Matt Seitz, McDonald: Senior needed 12 points to become the school’s all-time leading scorer and netted 26 in a 66-59 win over Hubbard. The old record was 1,202 points.

Eric James, Westerville Central: Senior and Duquesne recruit scored 32 points (hit five 3s) in a 64-63 win over Westerville North. Also scored 22 points in a 66-50 win over Hilliard Bradley.

Dalton Davis, Tecumseh: Senior had 35 points (seven 3s), six rebounds and six steals in an 83-64 win over Kenton Ridge. Also scored 17 points in a 71-47 win over Stebbins. Earlier this season in a win over Greenville, Davis hit 10 3s.
