2013 JJHuddle Ohio HS Football Coach of the Year

Chip Otten, Coldwater

With just three starters back…This was the year. This was the season. This was when mighty Coldwater, the invincible football factory from the MAC, finally buckled. This was the season Coldwater flinched. This was the season the Cavs caved. This was the season Coldwater folded. This was the season…Coldwater won its fourth state title and second in a row. This was the season Coldwater made its fifth straight state final. This was the season Coldwater made its state best 18th straight playoff appearance. This was the season Coldwater established itself as one of the state’s best public (and overall) football programs – ever. The head honcho? Otten. It’s safe to say that the man has had huge shoes to fill in taking over for legend John Reed. It’s also safe to say he’s surpassed expectations. The list is one of legend. And it’s got a new member. Drum roll please…Hetrick, Boeckman, Goodwin, Schulte, Whiting, Starkey, Reed and…Otten. Multiple MAC state title winners.

COY HONORABLE MENTION: John Rodenberg, Moeller; Dan McSurely, Clinton-Massie; Tiger Laverde, Kirtland; Fred Cranford, Loveland; Tim Goodwin, Marion Local; and Jason Krause, Fairfield.
