The Week 2 competition for the Ohio National Guard JJHuddle Ohio HS Boys Basketball Team and Player Of the Week is over. And it was a good one. Over 5,000 votes were cast and this week’s winners are…

ONG JJH Ohio Boys BKB Player of the Week

Week 2 Winner: Luke Kennard, Franklin

Junior guard set a school single-game scoring record (previously held by his uncle) with 51 points in an 83-56 win over Trenton Edgewood. Kennard also scored 45 points in a 71-47 win over Valley View and 33 points in an 85-43 win over Brookville. Through four games, Kennard is averaging 40.75 points per game (he had 34 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a season-opening win over Waynesville). The previous Franklin scoring record of 48 points was set by Todd Kennard in 1982 (against Trenton Edgewood).

Week 2 Runner-Up: David Dennis, Jr., Harvest Prep

Continued torrid start to season by scoring 33 points (hit seven 3s) in a win over Madison Christian, 21 in a win over the Wellington School and 26 in a win over Grove City Christian. This is one the heels of 33- and 28-point performances against Fisher Catholic and Mount Gilead, respectively.

Week 1: Trey Smith, Delphos Jefferson

ONG JJH Ohio Boys BKB Team of the Week

Week 2 Winner: Centerville

The Elks improved to 6-0 with road wins at Lebanon (75-44) and Fairmont (54-44) and a home win over Springboro (51-42). Centerville is averaging 64.5 points and allowing just 36.5.

Week 2 Runner-Up: Newark

The Wildcats became just the third school in state history to win 1,500 boys basketball games with a 55-53 road win at Gahanna-Lincoln. Only Canton McKinley and Archbold have also achieved the feat. The win avenged three losses to the Lions last year, including a meeting in the D-I district final.
