Regional Quarterfinals: Friday Night Final Scores and What We Learned

The first night of the Ohio High School Football Playoffs is in the books and so is the season for 64 more teams. Upsets? Yep. Shockers? Yep? Final Scores? Yep…it’s all here.

What We Learned

1. Athens and Logan Elm deserve some sleep and applause: The Bulldogs and Braves staged an instant classic. The final? Athens 74, Logan Elm 55. Athens QB Joe Burrow completed 26-of-34 passes for 501 yards and six TDs. Athens RB Trae Williams scored seven TDs and had 147 yards rushing and 117 receiving. Logan Elm’s Cory Heeter carried the ball 23 times for 81 yards and seven TDs. Athens had 684 yards of offense. Their 74 points is the second most ever for an Ohio team on the opening night of the football postseason. Whew.

2. Eight Ball: Kenton’s Grant Sherman threw for eight TDs in the first half of the Wildcats 58-14 win over Galion. Kenton led 58-0 at half and only threw four passes in the second half. Sherman completed 35-of-49 passes for 489 yards and eight TDS. Five of Sherman’s TD passes went to Kollin Stollar who caught eight passes for 165 yards.

3. Kirtland Impresses: The Hornets started marching towards their third straight state final by beating McDonlad 57-0. Adam Hess led the charge by rushing for 131 yards and four TDs.

4. Clyde Glides: The Fliers routed Medina Buckeye 62-14 thanks in part to QB Tim Hoppe who threw for four TDs and ran for another. Next up? A rematch with Perkins. The Pirates beat Clyde 34-14 in Week 6.

5. Triway beats Wauseon: Senior QB Parker Carmichael was 29-of-42 for 323 yards and four TDs in 26-21 win over Wauseon. He now has 3,000 yards this year and 7,000 for his career according to the Wooster Daily News (@adorksenTDR).

6. TCC cruises past Defiance: Notre Dame recruit DeShone Kizer completed 11-of-16 passes for 318 yards and four TDs as the Irish routed Defiance 69-14. Blade Article

7. First Time Winners: Maysville, Miami East, Perrysburg and Cincinnati Northwest. Congrats.
