Michigan State just picked up its second commitment in the Class of 2014: Gahanna (Ohio) Lincoln swingman Javon Bess, who was in East Lansing this past weekend for his official visit.
“I called Coach [Tom] Izzo just about 20 minutes and committed to Michigan State,” Bess said. “My parents and I were talking and we felt that Michigan State was the best decision for me. Coach Izzo was excited and told me he was about to tell all the guys on the team. He was very excited.”
The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Bess chose Michigan State over finalists Kansas State and Dayton. Bess held additional offers from Xavier, Texas Tech, Toledo, Kent State, Robert Morris and several others.
“It feels great to be a Spartan,” Bess said. “It’s just a blessing to play at the Division I level.”
Bess joins Wichita (Kan.) Sunrise Christian guard Lourawls Nairn, Jr. in Michigan State’s 2014 recruiting class.
Bess has a 247Sports Composite rating of 86.17 and is the No. 6 prospect in Ohio.
