Team To Beat

*Athens (11-2, Region 12 finalist): The
Bulldogs made history last year by making the program’s first regional
final. This season – and next –  could see them go farther. Junior QB
Joe Burrow (6-4, 190) is back after accounting for 60 TDs and 4,075
total yards last season en route to Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division
Offensive Player of the Year honors. Burrows threw for 3,239 yards and
47 TDs (and just eight INTs) and ran for 836 yards and 13 TDs. Two of
Burrows’ top targets return in…MORE

Teams To Watch

*Cambridge (6-4): The Bobcats are poised for a breakout and
looking to earn their first playoff berth since 2006. Junior QB Caleb
Tingle (5-10, 175) returns after throwing for 1,180 yards and 11 TDs and
rushing for 405 yards and seven TDs. Other key senior
offensive returners include…MORE

*Chillicothe (4-6): Led by veteran head coach
Ron Hinton (multiple state titles at Amanda-Clearcreek), the Cavaliers
are looking for a resurgence. This could be the year. Chillicothe
returns four first team All-Southeast Ohio Athletic League performers in…MORE

*Columbus DeSales (5-5): The Stallions had the state’s then-best state playoff streak snapped at 18 years with a ninth place finish in the Region 10 rankings…MORE

*Dover (11-3, Region 11 Champion): The Tornadoes advanced
to their fifth straight regional final and finally broke through for
their first regional title last year. Dover has been to the playoffs 13
of the last 15 years…MORE

*Logan Elm (6-5, Region 12 quarterfinalist): The Braves made the playoffs for the third time in five years and are looking to make it four in six. Key senior returners are…MORE

*Marion-Franklin (11-2, Region 7 finalist): The Red Devils have several holes to fill, but one isn’t at tackle where senior OL Martesse Patterson (6-5, 290) returns. He holds offers from Purdue, Kentucky, Cincinnati and several MAC schools…MORE

*New Philadelphia (8-3, Region 5 quarterfinalist): The Quakers made the playoffs for the second
time in a row and sixth time in school history last year but failed to
win the program’s first postseason game. New Philly is 0-6 in Week 11.
That should change this season. The Quakers return a potent offense that

*West Holmes (11-2, Region 11 finalist): The Knights will ride senior workhorse RB/LB Layne Perone (6-1, 210) whose coming off a record-setting 2012 season. A year ago, Perone set WH records
for TDs (35) and rushing yards (2,090) in a season. He also had 71
tackles, four fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles and an INT…MORE

Keep An Eye On

*Beechcroft (8-2, Region 7 quarterfinalist): The Cougars have one of central Ohio’s top LBs in senior Adonis Davis (6-3, 240). He had 90 tackles, 15 TFL, four sacks, two INTs and two forced fumbles last year.

*Brookhaven (7-3): The Bearcats must replace their leading passer, top rusher and top three WRs. The good news? A pair of talented juniors return in RB/QB David Peoples (5-11, 170/415 yards rushing, two TDs) and OL Steffan Banks (6-2, 280). Brookhaven returns five other players that scored a TD last year…MORE

*Buckeye Valley (7-3): The Barons return senior RB Brad Edmonds (6-1, 190) who ran for 577 yards and six TDs last year.  Look for senior RB/LB Cloin Schwartz (5-10, 170/two TDs) to log touches too.
