Team To Beat
*Leipsic (8-3, Region 22 quarterfinalist): The Vikings are 38-9 the last four years and have been to the playoffs each season. They’ve lost three times to Delphos St. John’s, including last year. Leipsic is loaded again. The Vikings return senior QB Zack Kuhlman (6-3, 190) who is a two-time first team All-Blanchard Valley Conference selection. Teams To Watch
*Delphos St. John’s (8-5, Region 22 finalist): The Blue Jays lost to five playoff teams last year, including four that made regional finals and two that won state titles. This year the schedule doesn’t get any easier with the addition of Elida as a Week 2 non-league game. Lima Central Catholic remains the opener. DSJ will lean heavily on senior workhorse RB Tyler Jettinghoff (6-2, 210), a two-time All-Midwest Athletic Conference selection who ran for 1,790 yards and 20 TDs last year. Also back is…MORE
*Edon (7-3): The Bombers have one of the best 1-2-3 small school punches in Ohio in senior QB/WR Connor Hug (6-1, 185), senior RB Trevor Green (5-7, 170) and senior WR Brock Thiel (5-10, 195).
*Fremont St. Joseph (10-2, Region 22 semifinalist): The Crimson Streaks return nine All-Midland Athletic League selections from a team that earned the program’s third playoff berth in four years (and 12th overall). Included in the mix is a talented senior cast that includes RB Marcus Kerr, OL/DL Corey Durbin (6-1, 255), OL Hunter Harrison (6-3, 240), DL Nick Militello (6-3, 310), DL Ryan Williams, LB Bennett Weickert, LB Matt Fox and OL/DL Mitchell Gonya (6-0, 200)…MORE
*Hicksville (6-4): The Aces should make the playoffs if history holds. Hicksville made Week 11 in 2009 and 2011 and missed it in 2010 and 2012. The return of First Team All-Green Meadows Conference RB Kaleb Johns (sr.) bodes well. Senior OL Blake Sholl will open holes.
*McComb (13-1, Region 22 champions): The Panthers had a historic season last year by advancing to the state semifinals before falling to eventual state champion Marion Local 34-28 in three OTs. McComb now faces the huge task of replacing…MORE
*Tiffin Calvert (7-5, Region 22 semifinalist): The Senecas posses a rich history. Calvert owns 11 playoff berths and is 16-9 with four state semifinal appearances and two state titles (1980-81). The Senecas are on the verge of another run. Entering 2013 with back-to-back postseason appearances, Calvert is looking to extend its streak to three. The Senecas return nine starters on each side of the ball…MORE
