Region 25 Preview

Teams To Watch

*Lancaster Fairfield Christian Academy (8-3, Region 23 quarterfinalist): The Knights are coming off the program’s second playoff appearance ever (and in three years). Expectations are at an all-time high with the return of the team’s leading rusher, passer and receiver. Senior RB Ben Tobin (5-11, 205) is back after putting up staggering numbers (2,942 yards and 31 TDs on 343 carries) as a junior. He had 3,179 all-purpose yards.  Senior QB Collin Young (6-2, 230) also returns after throwing for 1,243 yards and 18 TDs. Young also ran for 283 yards and five TDs. On defense, Young had three INTs and a fumble recovery. He also punts and kicks off. Senior WR Jacob Walker (6-2, 190) led the team with 624 yards receiving and nine TDs on 20 catches last year. Sophomore Josh Heeter (5-11, 180) made an impact as a freshman with three INTs and 545 all-purpose yards. Senior Brian Miller (6-1, 190) anchors the OL. The Knights begin play in the Mid-State League this season.

*Malvern (10-2, Region 21 semifinalist): The Hornets return one of the state’s best small school backfield in senior RB Cobin Plessinger (5-11, 185) and senior QB Trey Tucci (6-3, 205). Plessinger ran for 1,734 yards and 15 TDs last year, while Tucci threw for 1,010 yards and 14 TDs. Malvern must replace its top three WRs. Defensively the Hornets return Plessinger (63 tackles and eight TFL), senior LB Anthony Ruegg (5-10, 195/63 tackles), senior DB Mitchell Haasz (6-3, 180/29 tackles/three INTs) and junior DL Eddie Zinn-Turner (6-3, 240/43 tackles, 10 TFL, eight sacks).

*Shadyside (Region 21 quarterfinalist): The Tigers will feature a solid defense led by senior OL/DL Cory Banco (6-2, 295), junior DL Scot Hammond (6-1, 175), junior DL Eric Howell (6-2, 195) and junior LB Austin Dorris (6-5, 215).

*Steubenville Catholic Central (6-5, Region 21 quarterfinalist): The Crusaders snapped a four-year absence from the playoffs last year. Expect them to compete for a return trip. Senior QB Brenton Colabella (6-2, 185) returns for his fourth year as a starter. As a junior he threw for 2,484 yards and 28 TDs. Colabella already owns SCC records for passing yards in a game (369), passing yards in a season (2,484), career passing yards (5,513), touchdown passes in a season (28) and career touchdown passes (53). Defensively, SCC will lean on senior LB Aleks Porecca (5-10, 190) and senior DB Ryan Fletcher (6-1, 195). Fletcher made 49 tackles and had three INTs (returned one for a TD). He also caught 24 passes for 370 yards and three TDs. Porreca made 52 tackles (11 TFL).
