Noah Forrider, Marysville, 138: Forrider bumped up a weight class last Saturday during a dual with St. Eds and pulled off the big win, downing Edgar Bright.
Team of the Week
Pickerington Central: The second seed went into top seeded Hilliard Davidson and took the Region 6 title from them 40-31 to advance to the state tournament at St. John’s Arena.
State Duals: State Final Match-Ups/Regional Recaps
Division I: The Elite 8 are as close to what everyone expected as possible.
Cleveland’s big three – St. Edward, Perry and Brecksville – rolled into the state tournament without any problems.
Oregon Clay took advantage of three forfeits in dismissing Sidney at home while Marysville and Centerville both took care of business at home to move on.
The lone shock came in region 6 where Pickerington Central took a 40-31 win over top seeded Hilliard Davidson.
After a back-and-forth beginning, Pickerington Central made their move at 145 when Jordan Pieczynski decisioned Nick Lawler 3-0 to begin a 30-0 run to ice the win.
Division II: Athens reward for their 42-19 win over Circleville is Graham, who steamrolled Carroll 74-6.
Toledo Central Catholic showed the team aspect of the new format in taking a well balanced 46-15 win over Clyde
CVCA also rolled as did Claymont, who claimed a 40-19 win over Steubenville.
Lexington and Ross also had easy times moving to the state finals.
Division III: Karma can be a bitch sometimes.
Two years ago, the Nelsons were in the Tuslaw wrestling program, but moved to Waynedale. Wednesday night, the two teams met with the Region 20 title on the line and Tuslaw kicked Waynedale from the tournament with a 35-31 win. Ian Sanor wrapped up the win with a 3-0 decision at 220.
Delta claimed a 38-27 win in a showdown of the top two D-III teams in the state at Archbold while Upper Sandusky, Amanda Clearcreek, Versailles, Johnstown Northridge and Blanchester also advanced.
Keystone enters as the lowest seed, claiming the Region 19 title as the fifth seed.
