The second week of the first state dual team tournament is in the books. Surprises? Some. Upsets? Some. In
addition to a look at the brackets and results for the tourney, here’s
our weekly compilation Ohio’s top performances and news. Who won last week? Who is the JJH Wrestler & Team of the Week? It’s all here…
Wrestler of the Week
Grant Pittroff, Miamisburg, So, 152: With the Vikings locked in a tight battle in the regional semi’s, Pittroff threw returning district qualifier Brandon Boykin for what turned out to be a seven point move en route to a 10-3 win. Pittroff’s win helped lead Miamisburg over a Fairmont squad which had beaten them 55-17 two weeks ago. Miamisburg, however, fell in the second round of the regional finals to Centerville.
Team of the Week
Keystone: The fifth seed in Region 19-A, advanced to the Regional finals with a 37-29 win over top seeded Beachwood and a 40-36 win against second seeded Clearview.
State Duals: Regional Semifinal Recap
Division I: While most of the top seeds moved to the regional finals, there were some upsets along the way.
In Region 2, second seeded Wadsworth will face off against top seed Brecksville for the title after getting past fourth seeded Nordonia in the regional semis.
Nordonia had opened the night with a 36-24 win over top-seeded Barberton by jumping to an early lead. Nordonia got a pin from Tony DeCesare (106) and Trevon Berry (126), a technical fall from Andrew Coghill (113) and a wild 20-18 decision by Nick Collica to jump to a 20-0 lead. Barberton got as close as 26-13, but Nordonia was able to hold the number one seed at bay the rest of the match to take the win.
In Region 7, second seeded Mason jumped on top-seeded Fairfield early in taking a 49-22 win to advance to face top seeded Centerville in the regional finals.
The Comets started out on a tear as Patrick Kearney recorded a fall at 106 before Rylan France (120), Bryan Crabtree (126) and Caleb Dimerling helped Mason run the lead to 21-4. The Indians were never able to string two wins together in the dual.
Region 8 was even more unbalanced as fourth seeded Princeton defeated top seeded Harrison 31-30 while St. Xavier knocked off second seeded Elder 39-30. St. Xavier earned a date at top seeded Moeller with a 49-26 win over the Vikings.
Division II: Second seeded Bay pulled a mild upset in Region 10, knocking off top seeded Padua Franciscan 39-35 to advance to face CVCA.
Fourth seeded Crestwood took a back-and-forth battle with top seeded Howland 37-28 before knocking off third seeded ASVSM 39-30 to advance to face top seeded Perry in Region 11.
In Region 15, third seeded Hillsboro will face top seeded Ross after knocking off second seed Washington Court House and top seeded Miami Trace while Carroll is the next opponent for Graham in Region 16.
The Patriots bumped off Thurgood Marshall and fourth seeded Tipp City. Tipp had knocked out top seeded Greenville 42-36.
Division III: In Region 19, there is not a top seed left to be found.
In Region 19-A, fifth seeded Keystone took out the top seed – Beachwood – 37-29 and second seeded Clearview 40-36, getting pins from Jeremy King (182) and Jacob Worthington (195) and a forfeit from Corbin Chizmadia (220) to ice the win. Keystone will face third seeded Kirtland for the title. Kirtland knocked off seventh seeded Berkshire 47-36 and top seeded Cardinal 38-33 to advance.
In Region 23, Deer Park and Blanchester are an unlikely pair for the finals.
Deer Park knocked off second seeded Carlisle 38-36 and top seeded Reading 42-30 while second seeded Blanchester upset fourth seeded Dayton Christian 45-33. Dayton Christian had knocked off top seeded Dixie 37-35 in the first round Wednsday.

Must-See Regional Final Matches
Obviously most of the Regional finals are going to be good, but there are a couple not to miss matches if you live within driving distance of them.
In Division II, Steubenville and Claymont meet again in what should be a barn burner for the Region 12 title.
In Division III, perhaps the two best teams left in the tournament – Archbold and Delta – meet for the Region 17 crown.

Ship them to me: A lot of newspapers are doing less wrestling
coverage than in the old days and in many cases school sites are very
antiquated. Sometimes, it makes finding results impossible without a
