Division IV Playoff Preview & Picks
Hartley, Norwayne, St. Clairsville, Clinton-Massie
KEEP AN EYE ON:
Ottawa-Glandorf, Genoa, Brookfield, North Union
Fenwick, Galion, Ironton, Westfall
TOUGHEST REGION: Region 14
This is arguably the deepest region in the state in any division. There are four 10-0 teams and five teams ranked in the final Ohio National Guard JJHuddle D-IV Power Poll: Hartley (No. 1), Genoa (No. 5), Ottawa-Glandorf (No. 7), North Union (No. 8) and Galion (No. 10). Ready is no slouch.
BEST FIRST ROUND GAME: 5 Galion (9-1) at 4 North Union (10-0), Region 10
These teams aren’t league foes – yet. In two years Galion will join the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference, which North Union won this year. NU has allowed 88 points all season, including 58 the last eight weeks. Galion is making its fourth playoff appearance and is 4-3 all-time in the postseason with all four wins coming during its 1985 state championship season. NU is making its fourth postseason appearance and is looking for its first playoff win over (0-3).
*6 Ready (7-2) at 3 Genoa (10-0)
Ready’s only losses are to undefeateds Lima Central Catholic and Hartley. Genoa has scored 525 points this season and is led by senior RB Kyle Nutter who set a school single-season rushing record last week with 2,055 yards.
*5 CHCA (9-1) at 4 Batavia (10-0)
Batavia has a solid ground game led by the program’s all-time leading rusher in senior RB Zainn Ison. Both Ison and sophomore RB Keshawn Foley have over 1,000 yards this season. Two weeks ago Batavia got senior FB Ryan Gormley back. All he did was run for 220 yards and three TDs in a win over then undefeated Western Brown. CHCA counters with a defense that’s allowed 22 points and had five shutouts in its last seven games. Only one team has scored more than 12 points on CHCA this season.
