REGION 21 (Preview Released 7/31)

Playoff Predictions (Click Here)

Team To Beat
* Malvern (10-2, Region 21 Semifinalist): The Hornets have been
to the playoffs five years in a row and should make it six under Head
Coach Dave Tucci (97-47 in 13 years at Malvern; 127-67 overall). FB/LB
Brady Weber (6-2, 255, sr.) and WR/DB Max Kapron (6-4, 180, sr.) are
two-way standouts who will be relied upon heavily. Weber had 105
tackles, 20 TFL and seven sacks a year ago. He also ran for 337 yards
and five TDs on 59 carries. Kapron racked up 31 tackles and five
interceptions. He also caught 44 passes for 935 yards and eight TDs.
Defensively Malvern also brings back RB/SS Marcus Johnson (5-8, 165,
sr./73 tackles, 11 TFL), RB/LB Cobin Plessinger (5-10, 175, jr./73
tackles, 11 TFL) and NG Josh Holmes (5-10, 180, sr./84 tackles, 11 TFL).
OT/DT Brian Merritt (6-1, 267, sr.) is the teams “best OL” according to
Tucci. The big question for Malvern is replacing All-Ohioan Shawn Ball
at QB. That job falls on the shoulders of junior Trey Tucci (6-1, 185)
who led the Hornets JV to a 6-1 record last year. New to the non-league
schedule this year is Berlin Center Western Reserve, who beat Malvern in
the regional semifinals last season.

* Delphos St. John’s (10-4, State Semifinalist): The Blue Jays
are 52-7 with four trips to the state semifinals and two state titles
since the start of 2009. DSJ will again contend for a MAC and state
title although there are holes to fill. “Two a days will be a very
important part of our success in Weeks 1 and 2 (against Lima Central
Catholic and Port Clinton),” head coach Todd Schulte (136-36 in 14
years) said. “We will be inexperienced up front so the faster they
develop and gel together the better chance we will have to compete (in

year.” Key returners include: Mark Boggs (sr., QB, 6-1 185), Tyler

Team To Beat
* Symmes Valley (10-2, Region 23 Semifinalist): The Vikings are
looking to make the playoffs for the fourth straight time and have
hosted regional quarterfinals the last two years. They’d like to take
the next step with an extended playoff run and this could be the year.
SV will be young, but talented. The Vikings return two 1,000-yard
rushers in senior Alec Herrell (5-9, 170/1,321 yards, 12 TDs) and junior
D.J. Miller (5-9, 160/1,089 yards, 12 TDs). Junior Tyler Rowe (6-2,
215), who saw action at FB and RB last year (six TDs), moves to QB. Line
play will be solid with juniors OL/DL Caleb Holderby (6-1, 225), TE/DL
Austin Baldwin (6-4, 225), OL/DL Kyle Wells (6-2, 300) and TE/DE Jacob
Graybeal (6-2, 175).  Junior RB/DE Austin Owens (5-11, 185) will impact
both sides of the ball as well. SV has three new opponents this season
in Reedsville Eastern, Chillicothe Southeastern and Buffalo (WV). Said
Webb: “We lost in the second round of the playoffs last season and that
left a bad taste in our players mouth. We have used that to have a good
winter weight lifting session so far. If the players continue to improve
over the summer the way they have in the winter, we feel we can
compete.”
