It will be interesting to see how Ohio’s Mr. Football and the nation’s all-time leading passer performs in college, and we may get to see him start from the get-go.

Consider…Mizzou incumbent James Franklin is out until late July/early August rehabbing from surgery to fix a torn labrum.

Then…back-up Corbin Berkstresser was arrested on May 15 for suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident. He’s been suspended indefinitely as part of university policy.

That leaves junior Ashton Glaser and sophomore walk-on Alex Demczak. Glaser has played in one college game (last year’s 69-0 blowout of Western Illinois) and has two career carries for three yards. He’s never thrown a pass in competition.

Mauk will report to Columbia shortly after graduation. Reports indicate that head coach Gary Pinkel intends to give him every shot at earning the starting nod.

The Tigers opener is at home against Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 1. The next week they host Georgia in their SEC debut.

Said one insider: “Talk about being in the right place at the right time.”

The door is open.

And we’re rooting hard for him. The kid is special.
