Another day, another Insider. Enjoy…

OHIO HIGH SCHOOL INSIDER

*Not All Onboard: One might think the fact that there are now seven football divisions was a highly favorable move among Ohio high school football coaches. Turns out it was one that was done with limited input – if any – from that group.

Seen by several football coaches statewide as a ploy by the OHSAA to get Division I schools to vote for the upcoming Competitive Balance Proposal, the move to seven divisions in 2013 doesn’t seem like an overly favorable – or even remotely unanimous – one.

“It doesn’t really accomplish anything,” one coach said. “There’s still a huge gap in enrollment (577 student difference) in D-I. Are you telling me schools like Miamisburg, Boardman and Marysville are fine with playing St. Ignatius, St. Xavier and St. Edward now? No.”

The move to seven divisions also raises this question: when is the extra title game? Thursday? If so, does that division play all its playoff games on Thursday? If not someone would have to play on a short week. And that wouldn’t be fair.
