big pickup from Cincinnati Moeller in linebacker Shane Jones.
The 3-star junior recently visited MSU and decided to commit to the
Spartans Monday, calling coach Mark Dantonio to inform him of the
decision.

Jones
has been high on MSU’s recruiting board for quite some time, landing an
offer from the Spartans in February. Jones also visited a junior day in
East Lansing that month and always had very positive things to say
about the program.

“I just felt like it was the place for me and I wanted to be a Spartan,” Jones said.

Spartan Tailgate caught up with Jones Monday afternoon for his thoughts on the big decision.

Spartan Tailgate: When did you know Michigan State was the right fit for you?

Shane Jones: After watching practice on Thursday and coming home.

ST: What was (Moeller receiver and 2012 MSU commit) Monty Madaris’ reaction when you told him?

SJ: He was very excited about it.

ST: What’s your take on MSU’s 2013 recruiting class?

SJ: I think it’s going to be a great class and I can’t wait to get around them.

ST: What will you bring to MSU off the field?

SJ: I’ll be a real teammate to the guys and work hard in the classroom.

ST: What type of player will you be on the field?

SJ: Someone who can cover the field but also come up and play the run as well.

ST: Where does MSU’s staff project you playing?

SJ: At either outside linebacker position.

ST: Any other players you’ll be trying to recruit to join you in 2013?

SJ: I don’t know, but I’ll try and help the coaches as much as I can.
