Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary super sophomore Dante Booker Jr. netted his first scholarship offer this week and it was from Ohio State. Here’s what Booker Jr. and Urban Meyer discussed…
Urban Meyer and his staff are having plenty of success on the
recruiting trail. They are assembling an outstanding 2013 recruiting
Meyer and his assistants are also doing plenty of work ahead on the
class of 2014. Another example of their work is the latest phone
conversation between Akron St.
Vincent-St. Mary super sophomore Dante Booker Jr. and Meyer.
“When I spoke with coach Meyer on the phone he said there’s a scholarship there for me,” Booker said in a text.
Booker visited Ohio State earlier this week for a spring practice session.
“I visited Monday, and hopefully will again sometime,” Booker said. “And I talked to (coach Meyer) in person as well.”
The 6-foot-3 and 210-pound Booker is considered by some to be an
“athlete” that could play multiple positions at the next level. The best
bet is linebacker when it comes to the Buckeyes.
“I’m pretty sure linebacker,” he said. “But I first got in
contact with coach (Mike) Vrabel and he coaches the d-line so possibly
Booker enjoyed his Ohio State visit and is certainly considering the Bucks.
“Yeah, definitely,” Booker said. “(I) liked all the coaches and just got a good feel about the whole University.”
As far as who else Booker is interested in, he mentions at least a
couple of the Buckeyes’ top rivals, but wants to stay open minded.
“I’m looking at any school that would be interested in me,”
Booker said. “But a few in particular would be Auburn, Wisconsin and
Michigan. (I’ve) got a little feedback from those schools.”
Booker had a great sophomore season. He was credited with 179
tackles including 14 sacks. Booker forced four fumbles, recovered three
and had eight pass break-ups.
Kurelic’s Comment: I watched Booker in-person at the NIKE
Combine in Massillon in March. He was very impressive and put up one of
the top SPARQ scores at the event despite being just a sophomore. He is a
Top 5 Ohio class of 2014 prospect.
