Alter QB Malik Zaire

Kettering Alter junior quarterback Malik Zaire’s list of scholarship offers grew to over a dozen on Monday and Number 13 was a big one. It was Alabama. Said Zaire: “I gave them a
call and talked to coach (Nick) Saban. That’s when he offered me.” Now what?

Kettering Alter junior quarterback Malik Zaire’s list of scholarship offers grew to over a dozen on Monday. Number 13 was a big one for Zaire.

“My
most recent offers are Alabama and Akron,” Zaire said. “Alabama offered
(Monday). I talked to one of their coaches on Facebook. I gave them a
call and talked to coach (Nick) Saban. That’s when he offered me.”

However, Zaire said the offer does not necessarily mean he could
commit to the Crimson Tide if he wanted to – at least at this point.

“Coach Saban said he wants to evaluate me in person,” Zaire said.
“He wants to evaluate and talk to all the quarterbacks in person.”

The same situation exists for Zaire with Ohio State.

“I talked to coach (Tim) Hinton the other day,” Zaire said. “They want to see their quarterbacks in person and evaluate them.”

Zaire had been planning to announce his college choice later this month, but that is no longer the case.

“It’s been pushed back due to the new offers that are coming in,”
Zaire said. “My next two visits will be Nebraska and Notre Dame. I’m
going to Notre Dame’s junior day March 24. And I’ll go to Nebraska
sometime in April – I just have to arrange the flights.

“I’ll visit Alabama and get back up to Ohio State. I’ll visit both in June. I’ll work out at both. I’ll visit Wisconsin too.”

When asked to name his favorite schools, Zaire said, “It’s hard
to name a top five. I like Ohio State, Alabama, Nebraska, Notre Dame,
Wisconsin, I like Pitt a lot. There are a lot of schools I’m interested
in.”

The 6-foot-1 and 190-pound Zaire led Alter to a 10-1 record
during his junior season. The left-hander completed 36 of 82 passes for
729 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions. He rushed for
1,093 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Kurelic’s Comment: The Buckeyes and Tide are pretty much
telling Zaire the same thing and it looks like he will work out for both
before he makes his college choice. I don’t look for Zaire to pick a
college until at least mid-June.
