Many Buckeye fans have long lamented how long it has taken previous
Ohio State coaching staffs to offer scholarships to offensive linemen.
Such is not the case with Urban Meyer and his staff. Meyer has made his first 2014 offer to an Ohioan, and it went out to an offensive lineman.

Such is not the case with Urban Meyer and his staff.

Meyer has made his first 2014 offer to an Ohioan, and it went out to an offensive lineman.

Sophomore Jimmy Byrne (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) started four
games for the Wildcats during his sophomore season, something that does
not often happen at St. Ignatius. One of those four starts was the
Division 1 state championship game in which St. Ignatius defeated
Pickerington Central.

The 6-foot-4 and 275-pound Byrne started at tackle and had perhaps his best varsity game going against junior defensive end Taco Charlton who has a dozen scholarship offers.

Meyer stopped at St. Ignatius late last week to check on Buckeye tight end commitment Blake Thomas. He also was checking on Byrne.

“(Cleveland St. Ignatius) Coach (Chuck) Kyle told me coach Meyer
wanted me to call him,” Byrne said. “After school I called him and he
said he and coach

Kyle have known each other a long time. He said he has heard a
lot of good things about me and asked me if I wanted to be a Buckeye.

“Then later I talked to coach Kyle and asked him if that was a verbal offer. He confirmed it was.”

Byrne did not see the offer coming.

“That’s my first offer,” he said. “It’s exciting. I grew up
watching Ohio State. They are definitely up there (on my list). I’m
going to get down to one of their camps.”

Byrne has always played tackle and will play that position the
next two years for St. Ignatius. He is projected to play tackle in
college

Kurelic’s Comment: The Buckeyes are once again getting the
jump on their competition. This offer puts Meyer in a great spot to
land a future star offensive lineman.
