Michigan State this weekend. The trip to East Lansing is over and so is Meyers’ recruitment. He’s a Spartan.
Toledo Whtimer defensive back Mark Meyers made an official visit to Toledo the weekend of Dec. 3 and committed to the Rockets shortly afterwards.
Meyers made an official visit to Nebraska last weekend and one to
Michigan State this weekend. The trip to East Lansing is over and
Meyers is now a Spartan.
“Coach (Mark) Dantonio offered me a scholarship and I committed
about 20 minutes ago,” Meyers said. “I’m on the way home now. I just
told coach Dantonio I wanted to be a Spartan and he said ‘welcome to the
Meyers also gave the bad news to new Toledo coach Matt Campbell.
“I told him and he said he understood,” Meyers said. “He’s a great guy.”
The chance to go to Michigan State and play for the Spartans was too much for Meyers to pass up.
“I loved it there,” he said. “Everybody was great. I like the education programs they have and all the help they can give you.”
Spartan assistant Mike Tressel recruited Meyers.
“I talked to him and met all the other coaches,” Meyer said. “They are all great guys.”
In addition to Toledo, Meyers was also offered by Buffalo, Akron, Kent State and Bowling Green.
The 6-foot-0 and 190-pound Meyers was a starter at cornerback his
sophomore season and free safety the past two seasons. Meyers made 75
tackles and intercepted four passes two years ago. Last season he made
126 tackles with five interceptions. As a senior Meyers made 115 tackles
with five interceptions.
Meyers said the Spartans have told him he could play either safety or cornerback.
