Junior offensive tackle Tate Leavitt
(Thornville, Ohio/Sheridan) is an intriguing prospect. The 6-foot-7 and
280-pound Leavitt was a back-up varsity lineman his sophomore year. He
started every game at strong side offensive tackle his junior season.
Among the schools showing interest in Leavitt are Ohio State,
Florida State, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma State and a host of MAC
“I’ve received three e-mails in the last week or so from Ohio
State,” Leavitt said. “One of them said I could be the next 1st round
offensive lineman at Ohio State.”
Without a doubt, the e-mails have helped pique Leavitt’s interest in Ohio State.
“I’d love to get there for a visit,” he said. “I’m really
interested in Ohio State. Ohio State will always have the upper hand,
but I’ll keep all my options open.”
While Leavitt is a Buckeye fan, he is thinking some about other schools.
“I’m interested in a lot of schools,” Leavitt said. “Some of the
others are Michigan State, Wisconsin, and I’ve been an Alabama fan.”
The Buckeyes have a number of things going for them if they eventually offer a scholarship, including proximity.
“I’d like to stay close to home,” Leavitt said. “I don’t think I would go farther than say Missouri or Oklahoma.”
Kurelic’s Comment: Leavitt will need to continue to
develop, but the potential is there with his size and athletic ability.
He is also on the Sheridan basketball team.
