& JJHuddle Division III Power Poll: Week 8

1. Steubenville (7-0, R11)
Big Red held Mount St. Joseph’s (Md.) to nine yards rushing in a 35-20 win. Offensively, senior QB Marcus Prather led the way by completing 18-of-23 passes for 175 yards and two TDs.  This week the Big Red face their toughest test to date wit a visit from Buffalo (NY) St. Joseph’s Collegiate (5-1), which is led by Clemson recruit Chad Kelley.

2. Akron SVSM (7-0, R9)
The Irish had little trouble with Marion Harding in a 62-13. SVSM led 42-6 at halftime despite running just 17 first half plays. This week the Irish face a huge test when they host No. 5 Youngstown Mooney (4-2).

3. Mentor Lake Catholic (6-1, R9)
The Cougars forced four turnovers (all interceptions) and had a safety in a 24-10 win over Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. This week MLC travels to Padua Franciscan (1-6).

4. Kettering Alter (7-0, R12)
The Knights beat crosstown rival Carroll 20-0 thanks in part to RB Joe Penno who ran for 171 yards and two TDs on 15 carries. This week Alter travels to Fenwick (6-1).

5. Youngstown Mooney (4-2, R11)
The Cardinals led 35-0 at halftime and allowed just 80 total yards in a 47-7 win over Mifflin County (Pa.). Seniors Roosevelt Griffin and Mark Handel each scored two TDs. This week Mooney hits the road for a huge game at No. 2 Akron SVSM (7-0).

6. Ravenna (6-1, R9)
The Ravens racked up 553 yards of offense (ran for 408) in a 38-13 win over Field. Senior RB D.J. Jones ran for 131 yards and three TDs on 15 carries, while QB Brandon Holt ran for 157 yards and a TD on 18 carries. This week Ravenna is at Norton (1-6).

7. Jonathan Alder (7-0, R12)
The Pioneers built a 42-0 halftime lead and RB Derritt Potts ran for 130 yards and four TDs on five carries in a 62-14 win over Washington Court House. Alder racked up 417 yards, including 237 in the first half (on just 20 plays). This week Alder travels to Logan (1-6).

8. Springfield Shawnee (7-0, R12)
The Braves improved to 7-0 for the first time since 1996 with a 28-14 win over Tecumseh. Shawnee held Tecumseh to 69 yards rushing, had four different players score TDs and put 14 points on the board in the fourth quarter to pull away. This week the Braves host Bellefontaine (1-6).

9. Chagrin Falls (7-0, R9)
The Tigers won their 12th straight regular season game and beat Painesville Harvey 42-13. Senior QB Tommy Iammarino completed 12-of-16 passes for 122 yards and two TDs. This week Chagrin Falls faces a big test at West Geauga (6-1).

10. Dover (6-1, R11)
The Tornadoes enter the Power Poll after beating Zanesville 28-17 for their 30th straight East Central Ohio League victory. Dover also owns big wins over Ashland, Tri-Valley and Claymont. In the win over Zanesville, Dover had three interceptions and scored a defensive touchdown when Jonathan Fell blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone. QB Derik Swinderman and WR Mason Mamarella connected for three TD passes. Dover hosts Cambridge (6-1) this week.
