& JJHuddle Division VI Power Poll: Week 3
1. Ada (2-0)
Led by senior QB Konnor Baker who accounted for six TDs (five passing, one rushing) the Bulldogs beat visiting Spencerville 55-21. Three of Baker’s TD passes went to Cole Simon. Ada visits undefeated Columbus Grove (1-0) this week.
2. Minster (2-0)
The Wildcats cashed in on turnovers and opportunity in a 41-13 win over Lehman Catholic. Minster scored four TDs (including two on defense) on drives that averaged just under 51 yards per. RB/DB Korey Schultz scored on a 20-yard run and on a 22-yard fumble return. This week a trip to No. 3 Delphos St. John’s (0-2) opens MAC play.
3. Delphos St. John’s (0-2)
The Blue Jays lost their second straight 7-point game to a major player. A week after losing 21-14 to D-V No. 3 Lima Central Catholic, DSJ fell 14-7 to Detroit Central Catholic, an 11-time Big School state champion from Michigan. As a reward, MAC play starts this week with a visit from No. 2 Minster (2-0).
4. Marion Local (1-1)
The Flyers beat Canadian school Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary (CA) 48-7 at home. With Marion Local ahead 41-0 at halftime the teams played 10-minute third and fourth quarters due to the heat. This week the Flyers travel to New Bremen (0-2).
5. Malvern (2-0)
Stellar defense and the solid play of senior QB Shawn Ball led to a 46-0 shutout win over Lowellville. Malvern allowed just 34 yards defensively. Ball threw for 311 yards and four TDs and ran for 79 yards and two more TDs. This week Malvern hosts East Canton (0-2).
6. Thompson Ledgemont (2-0)
Led by senior RB Danny LaRosa (208 yards rushing and four TDs), the Redskins beat Newbury 50-0. LaRosa has 448 yards in two games. This week Ledgemont hosts Middlefield Cardinal (0-2).
7. New Washington Buckeye Central
The Bucks beat visiting Mapleton 41-7. Senior QB Tyler Irwin passed for two TDs, while RB Michael Adkins and WR Adam Painter each scored two. BC hosts Plymouth (1-1) this week.
8. St. Henry (0-2)
The Redskins trailed just 16-13 at halftime but faltered down the stretch in a 32-13 loss at Eaton. Junior QB Kyle Stahl threw for 113 yards and ran for 41 more, but St. Henry managed just two second half first downs. This week the Redskins open MAC play at Parkway (1-1).
9. Tiffin Calvert (2-0)
The Senecas beat then-No. 2 Norwalk St. Paul 35-21 to improve to 2-0 for the first time in nine years. It was also Calvert’s second straight win over the Flyers. Senior RB Dan Kwait led the offense by rushing for 112 yards and three TDs. Last year Calvert beat St. Paul and lost their next three. Lets see how this plays out…Up next is a visit from Woodmore (1-1).
10. Norwalk St. Paul (1-1)
The Flyers fell on the road and for the second straight season to Tiffin Calvert 35-21. St. Paul trailed 28-21 before cutting the lead to 28-21. The Flyers allowed 373 yards of offense. Another test looms this week with a trip to Huron (2-0).
DROPPED OUT: No. 10 Zanesville Rosecrans (lost 18-0 to Danville)
