& JJHuddle Division III Power Poll: Week 2
1. Marlington (1-0)
Senior RB Alden Hill (Tennessee) broke his own school record with 315 yards rushing and five TDs on 20 carries in a 46-19 win over Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas. Next up for the Dukes is a visit from Akron Garfield (0-1).
2. Steubenville (1-0)
Big Red rolled Morgantown (WV) 31-9 in Week 1. Heading into the fourth quarter, Steubenville was up 31-0 and had held Morgantown to minus-three yards of offense. Big Red hosts Akron Buchtel (0-1) this week.
3. Kettering Alter (1-0)
The Knights beat neighborhood rival Fairmont for the seventh straight season, capping junior QB Malik Zaire’s first varsity start with a 38-6 win. Zaire ran for 132 yards and two TDs and threw for 80 yards and another TD. This week Alter hosts Cleveland East Tech (0-1).
4. Akron SVSM (1-0)
The Irish racked up 441 yards of offense and ran over host Cincinnati Purcell Marian 61-13. Now a huge test looms with a trip to Walsh Jesuit (1-0).
5. Youngstown Mooney (1-0)
Down year for Mooney? Yeah right. The Cardinals overcame an 18-0 deficit to beat Canton McKinley 28-24. Now they face another D-I test at Youngstown Boardman (0-1).
6. Columbus DeSales (0-1)
The Stallions took one on the chin at Gahanna Lincoln, losing a 14-3 lead en route to a 31-14 loss. This week DeSales hosts Brookhaven (0-1).
7. Poland Seminary (1-0)
Behind an impressive effort from senior RB Jerry Lawman (176 yards and four TDs on 31 carries), the Bulldogs outlasted host Hubbbard 37-31. A huge test awaits this week with a trip to Austintown-Fitch (1-0) on the docket.
8. Springfield Shawnee (1-0)
Senior QB Brad Jarzab threw for 207 yards and two TDs and ran for another score as the Braves scored twice in the fourth quarter to pull out a 20-14 win over host Springfield Catholic. This week Shawnee travels to West Carrollton (1-0).
9. Ravenna (1-0)
Wow is right. Senior RB D.J. Jones exploded for 295 yards and four TDs on 24 carries in a 47-44 win over host Tallmadge. This week the Ravens face another big road test at Mentor Lake Catholic (1-0).
10. Akron Archbishop Hoban (0-1)
The Knights fell flat against visiting Gonzaga (DC) and couldn’t muster any offense in a 21-2 setback. Hoban was without the services of expected QB Domonic Orsini (injured), senior DE Greg McMullen (Nebraska) and three other starters. Hoban hits the road for another tough test at Benedictine (1-0) this week.
DROPPED OUT: No. 10 Licking Valley lost to New Albany 42-20
