Luke Fickell
has added verbal commitment No. 11 to the Buckeyes’ 2012 recruiting
class. Pickerington North senior OL Pat Elflein
visited Ohio State Thursday and committed to the Buckeyes.

The
6-foot-3 and 285-pound Elflein selected Ohio State over scholarship
offers from Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana, Cincinnati, South Florida,
Toledo, Bowling Green, Miami of Ohio and Akron.

Elflein was offered a scholarship by the Buckeyes on Wednesday
and told Bucknuts.com he would visit Ohio State today and would commit
on the visit.

“I just finished the visit,” Elflein said. “There was about 10
to 12 of us. My parents, my brothers and sister, grandparents, my whole
family went. It was kind of a short visit this time. I’m going back
next week to see the academic stuff and get a campus tour.”

Elflein said the decision to be a Buckeye was an easy one.

“The tradition, the people, I always wanted to play for Ohio State,” he said. “It’s my dream come true.”

Elflein met with Luke Fickell as well as the newest Buckeye assistant coach, Mike Vrabel. Elflein also received a mini-tour.

“We went in the weight room and saw some players working out,”
Elflein said. “I met some players too. Mike Adams and Michael Bennett
were there and a lot of freshman.”

Fickell and Ohio State offensive line coach Jim Bollman
saw Elflein in person at the Buckeyes’ Senior Advanced Camp on June 25.
At the time Bollman told Elflein he was one of the top performers at
the camp.

Elflein has the versatility to play either guard or center for
the Buckeyes. In addition to playing football, Elflein is also on the
North wrestling and track teams and could end his high school sports
career with 12 varsity letters. He will be a four-year varsity starter
on both the offensive and defensive lines and is an All-OCC selection.

Elflein is also a solid student with a 3.0 GPA and a 21 on the ACT.

Elflein joins Pickerington Central star Jacoby Boren who is the other 2012 offensive linemen that has committed to Ohio State.

Offensive lineman Alex Kozan
(Highlands Ranch, Co./Valor Christian) attended the same Ohio State
football camp that Elflein did and could be the next offensive lineman
the Buckeyes’ offer. He could also be their next commitment as Kozan,
who is from Ohio, is very high on Ohio State.

Bill Kurelic’s Comment: With Boren and Elflein the Buckeyes
have two interior offensive linemen. They now must focus on tackles and
Kozan could be one of them.
