Lancaster senior LB Luke Roberts, who saw his stock soar after some
impressive workouts at college camps in June, has now cashed in. Roberts
has become Ohio State commitment No. 10 for the Buckeyes’ 2012
recruiting class.

Roberts
committed to the Bucks over scholarship offers from Purdue, Indiana,
Arizona, Cincinnati, Ohio University, Kent State, Bowling Green and
Buffalo. He made his decision and gave Luke Fickell the
good news while visiting Ohio State today.

Roberts worked out at camps at Ohio State, Michigan State,
Purdue, Cincinnati and Duke and landed offers from the Buckeyes and
Boilermakers at their respective camps. He attended the Ohio State
Senior Advanced Camp on June 25.

The 6-foot-2 and 225-pound Roberts is going into his third year
as a starting inside linebacker. He made 96 tackles including 23 for
loss during his junior season.

The Buckeyes moved into the lead for Roberts’ services pretty
much the minute they offered him a scholarship.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Roberts explained how he informed OSU’s
coaching staff of his decision.

“I called Coach Fickell when I got out of practice with my team
today and committed,” he said. “I decided last night after talking to my
parents and praying about it. Coach Fickell said he’s excited and I’ll
be an asset to the team.”

Roberts is usually all-business, but he admitted he was beyond
excited about his choice.

“I’m just pumped to be a Buckeye,” he said.

Roberts and his parents visited OSU earlier this week which was
the clincher.

“After visiting Monday and talking to my family, I just felt Ohio
State is the best for me academically and for football,” Roberts said.
“The tradition from my school with Bobby Carpenter and Jimmy Cordle from
Lancaster was a factor too.”

Bill Kurelic’s Comment: With all the turmoil surrounding the
Ohio State football program it is going to be tough for the Bucks to
land out-of-state commitments right now so they are focusing on the top
guys they can secure from in-state at this point. They were impressed
with Roberts at camp and he fills the void left by Ejuan Price’s
decision to go to Pitt rather than OSU.
