Akron Hoban defensive lineman Greg McMullen, one of the Top 10 prospects in the state of Ohio,
has selected a college.

“I
committed to Nebraska,” McMullen said moments ago. “I actually did it a
few days ago, but I try to stay out of the media.

“I talked to the defensive coordinator and the defensive line
coach. I’m going to call coach (Bo) Pelini tonight.”

The Nebraska defense was a huge part of McMullen’s decision.

“I’m a defensive guy and in the last three or four years Nebraska
has had some great defensive lines. They had Ndamukong Suh and then
there’s Jared
Crick
. It’s a defensive minded school and Bo Pelini is a defensive
coach.”

The 6-foot-4 and 260-pound McMullen has been a varsity starter
since his freshman season when he had 12 sacks. During his sophomore
season McMullen had 11.5 sacks among his 41 tackles. Last season
McMullen had 11 sacks and was third on his team in tackles.

McMullen has well over a dozen scholarship offers including Ohio
State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Michigan. He left the door
open slightly to other schools.

“Nothing is set in stone,” McMullen said. “I’ll keep an open mind
with a few schools. I’ll talk to Oregon and Notre Dame. And I still
have to talk to coach (Jim) Bollman.

“I want to go out to a game at Oregon. I’d like to go to games at
Oregon and Notre Dame.”

Bill Kurelic’s Comment: This is of course not good news, but
the saving grace would be that McMullen is leaving the door open a bit,
and perhaps once all of the turmoil is behind at Ohio State, McMullen
could have his interest re-kindled.
