Listen up, people!…
This week’s MVP podcast features two of the finest athletes in Ohio high school sports – Chris and Jake Uhle on the eve of their run for the state pole vault championship at the upcoming OHSAA Track and Field Championships to be held at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus.
The Uhles vault for Olentangy Liberty High School where they are seniors. Few, if any athletes in any sport in this state can even fantasize about doing what they do seemingly on a routine basis.
Chris is the defending champion as he won at the big show last spring with a state record vault of 16-foot-9, even though identical twin brother Joey was the pre-meet favorite.
Joey managed to get it back together in time to win the state indoor championship with a vault of 17-foot-0. Later in the indoor season he cleared an amazing 17-foot-3 – an indoor state record that is unlikely to fall any time soon.
Although he does have that state championshio gold medal lying around the house somewhere, Chris no longer holds the state record. that belongs to Gahanna Lincoln’s junior vaulter, Jake Blankenship who vaulted 16-foot-10 recently.
All three will be in the same district during the post-season.
We’ll talk to the Uhle brothers about what it is like to deal with Mendenhall, where they plan to attend college in the fall, how things are going for the Olentangy Liberty track team, older brother Mike Uhle (a former OHSAA champion who finished in the money vaulting at the recent NCAA indoor championships), the Midwest Meet of Champions, as well as the national championships (Chris, finished second at the national indoor championships with a vault of 17-foot-0).
All of this and more, brought to you for free by your friends at the MVP podcast, the good folks at JJ Huddle.com, and Miami Valley Sports Magazine!
