Alliance (Ohio) Marlington
sophomore running back Dymonte Thomas
was at the Spartans spring game this past weekend, an eventful one for
his high school. His teammate, junior offensive lineman Zach Higgins,
committed to Michigan State on Saturday.

The Spartans were the first to offer 6-foot,
175-pound Thomas and since then Michigan and West Virginia followed
suit. Thomas is receiving interest from a host of other schools,
primarily Ohio State, Oregon and Cincinnati is who he hears from the
most.

Already a two-year varsity starter, on varsity Thomas has already
made a impact. Thomas rushed for 900 yards and 12 touchdowns as a
freshman and last season increased his productivity to 1,500 yards and
20 touchdowns.

Thomas is a three sport athlete in football, wrestling and
baseball. This past Saturday, while Thomas was in East Lansing, he
missed his team’s baseball game where MLB scouts were there to watch him
play.

Spartan Tailgate caught up with Thomas to get his report on his
first visit to Michigan State and get his reaction to Higgins’s
commitment.

Spartan Tailgate: Overall how did your first visit go to
Michigan State on Saturday?

Dymonte
Thomas
: It was a great visit. I liked the weight room and
everything. I liked all the coaches. I also liked the stadium. I thought
everything was pretty nice.

ST: What was your favorite part of the visit?

DT: Talking with the coaches. It was really nice talking with all
the coaches and getting a chance to get know them. I really liked that.

ST: What are some other college you plan on visiting in
the upcoming weeks?

DT: I plan on going to check out West Virginia sometime soon. I’m
just waiting on colleges to offer me and then I’ll go check them out.

ST: What is the in-state school Ohio State saying to you
after you picked up your first three offers?

DT: They really don’t talk to me. I really don’t think I would
want to go to Ohio State. Everyone always goes there from Ohio. Anyone
that good that is from Ohio goes to Ohio State. I don’t want to be like
them. I want to go somewhere different.

ST: What was your reaction when you found out Higgins
committed to Michigan State?

DT: I was really proud of Zach committing somewhere that he
really wanted to go. No other kid in this world has worked as hard as he
has to get better and better. I see him on the practice field all the
time and he is always just trying to make himself better. I’m glad to
see it finally paid off for him.

ST: What does Zach bring to a football team?

DT: He brings the heart. He motivates us. He makes sure that we
are always sticking together. He always gets us pumped before a game.
Without Zach, there’s a lot of things we wouldn’t be able to do but with
Zach there a lot of things we are able to accomplish.

ST: What is like having Zach blocking for you up front?

DT: It’s pretty good because not a lot of linemen are running
down field picking up a safety. Zach will block his guy, then a
linebacker will come in and he’ll block them. You could be 10 yards
downfield and look to your left and you see Zach running next to you.

ST: Walking away from Michigan State, what kind of
impression did the Spartans leave with you?

DT: They left the impression that they are a really good school
to go to. That I would fit in there and I liked how they coached. I
would be able to fit in well with all the other players. It went pretty
good.
