West Lafayette (Ohio) Ridgewood athlete Evan Jones took
a trip to East Lansing for MSU’s spring game Saturday and walked away
with an offer. MSU coach Mark Dantonio
took Jones into his office and extended an offer during his visit.

“It was crazy,” Jones said. “I’ve
always had a dream to play in the Big Ten and to play college football.
It was like a dream come true. I didn’t even know what to say about it.”

The 6-foot-4, 240 pound athlete put MSU at the top of his list
after receiving an offer from the Spartans. He holds additional offers
from West Virginia, Akron, Bowling Green and Toledo.

“Michigan State’s definitely at the top right now,” Jones said.
“I just love the coaches and I love the people. I just felt like I fit
in there.”

Jones is also hearing strong interest from Cincinnati and Ohio
State. In the upcoming weeks Jones is looking to make return trips to
MSU and West Virginia to get a closer look.

Jones has a 3.45 GPA and scored a 21 on his ACT, but plans on
taking it again. Jones is looking to go to college for graphic design or
electronic engineering.

Spartan Tailgate caught up with Jones to find out how his visit
went and how the MSU offer changes his recruiting plan.

Spartan Tailgate: Overall, how did the visit to MSU’s
spring game go?

EJ: It was great, I loved it up there. Everything was good. I
love the coaches, I love the facilities, I love the people. It was just
awesome.

ST: What position is MSU recruiting you to play?

EJ: They are recruiting me as a big power athlete. Right now
they’re not recruiting me for a specific position, I could play either
tight end or defensive end.

ST: What is your timeline on when you want to make a
decision?

EJ: Before I went up to Michigan State I was going to wait until
this summer and go to some camps and see what opportunity I would get.
After this weekend I really liked it up there. I’m still going to a few
more places to check them out. Right now it’s definitely looking good
for Michigan State.

ST: What other schools do you want to check out before
making your decision?

EJ: I was at West Virginia last weekend for their spring
scrimmage. I really liked it down there too. I would like to get back
down there and check it out. I want to check them out in more detail.
Same thing with Michigan State, I want to get back up there again and
check them out again.

ST: When would you ideally like to make it back to MSU?

EJ: Earlier at the end of May or beginning of June.
