offensive lineman Zach Higgins

Thing
is, while the Spartans had offered, the Buckeyes had not. And Higgins
found out this past weekend that offer may not be impending. So given
Higgins’s desire to play in the Big Ten, the decision was made easy,
right?

Well, it would have been.

“Northwestern just offered me today,” Higgins said Monday
evening. “I was pretty excited. They have great academics there.”

Now that he has two Big Ten offers, the deck has been
re-shuffled.

“My leaders are Michigan State and Northwestern,” Higgins told
Spartan Tailgate.

The 6-foot-4, 310-pound guard holds additional offers from West
Virginia, Cincinnati and a host of MAC schools.

Entering this past weekend, Higgins favored aforementioned
Michigan State and Ohio State. He attended the Buckeyes spring game in
Columbus with the idea of seeing whether the Buckeyes would come through
with an offer. During his visit, Ohio State offensive line coach Jim Bollman told
Higgins the team is still evaluating him and would stop by his school
this week to watch him work out.

“The visit went pretty good,” Higgins said. “We really didn’t
talk about an offer. So I don’t know if they will. They said that they
would be in this week to watch me work out. We’ll see where that goes.”

Higgins visited Michigan State last Thursday for the second time
and it again left a favorable impression. Higgins has had the Spartans
at or near the top of his list since they offered. With Northwestern
getting more involved and Ohio State still evaluating Higgins, Michigan
State may not be as close to a commitment from him as once expected.

“I’m going to wait a little bit,” Higgins said. “I really do like
Michigan State. There is a possibility I could commit. I kind of want
get the decision out of way. I want to make it sometime before this
summer. There’s still a lot of other schools I want to see.”

Higgins’s father is away on business in Russia for two weeks.
More than likely, Higgins said, he won’t be making a decision with his
dad overseas.
