recruitment go on and on. In fact, the 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive
lineman would like to have it wrapped by the end of summer.

Higgins: “If you got the chance to play in the Big Ten, then you were big time. That is the way I’ve always felt.”

Huggins
has offers from Michigan State, Cincinnati, West Virginia and several
MAC programs. He is also hearing from Ohio State, Michigan,
Northwestern, Indiana, Kentucky, Iowa State, Nebraska, Purdue, Duke,
Stanford, N.C. State and several others.

Higgins is an excellent student, boasting a 3.78 GPA and a 22 on the ACT.

Spartan Tailgate caught up Higgins to find out his reaction on
the recent Spartans offer and how they fit in to his recruitment.

Spartan Tailgate: What was your reaction when you picked up your first Big Ten offer from Michigan State this past weekend?

Zach Higgins (ZH):
I was pumped, Michigan State is such a great school. It was exciting
but at the same time I was kind bummed because the Michigan State
coaches told me they are only taking one guard in this class. So if
someone commits before me that is a guard, then I won’t have a
scholarship anymore.

ST: What was it about picking up your first Big Ten offer that you were so pumped about?

ZH: Well, I grew up a Ohio State fan. So growing up the Big Ten
was the conference that I wanted to play football in. If you got the
chance to play in the Big Ten, then you were big time. That is the way
I’ve always felt. Plus, now the Big Ten is growing. They’re already at
12 teams now.

ST: What is about the Michigan State football program that you consider them a great school?

ZH: They come on strong and get a lot of wins. They were first in
the Big Ten winning the Big Ten title with Wisconsin and Ohio State.
They have really nice facilities and their all coaches are really cool.
Their coaches are really personable. I also liked how their current
players took the time to get know me and talked with me. Also, how all
the coaches sat down and talked with me as well.

ST: Walking away from your visit from Michigan State, what kind of overall impression did they leave with you?

ZH: They left the impression that, ‘Oh my God, I want to go to school
here.’ That is what I thought about Michigan State the first time I left
there.

ST: What are some other schools you’ll be visiting in the upcoming weeks?

ZH: I’m going to Ohio State this weekend. I’m going back up to
Michigan State sometime soon. I might go check out Michigan as well.

ST: As of now, of the schools you currently hold offers from, do you have any type of leader?

ZH: Michigan State and West Virginia. But if Ohio State would offer me, they would my leader.

ST: Why are Michigan State and West Virginia your leaders?

ZH: Michigan State? It’s a Big Ten school. They have everything
up there. It’s nice up there as well. They practice hard, and their
coaches are sweet. I love their campus too. It’s just big-time football. West Virginia? That is where my family is from. It’s a pretty
sweet school. I don’t like how congested the campus is but I like
everything else about it.

ST: Have you thought about when you want to make your decision by?

ZH: I want to make it sometime before the summer.
