Junior days are in full swing and this weekend is certainly going to be a huge one in the Midwest when it comes to recruiting. Some of Mark Dantonio’s top targets will be in East Lansing on Sunday, but many other prospects the Spartans are recruiting will be visiting elsewhere this weekend.
The Michigan State basketball team takes on Purdue on Sunday in what will be a huge Big Ten basketball game, and Dantonio will welcome in some outstanding prospects including running back Vonte Jackson (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford). Jackson is one of the top three prospects in the state of Wisconsin and the Spartans have offered him a scholarship.
Also expected to be in East Lansing on Sunday are running back William Mahone (Austintown, Ohio/Fitch) and wide receiver/defensive back Corey Smith (Akron, Ohio/Buchtel), two more prospects the Spartans have offered.
Quarterbacks Tyler O’Connor (Lima, Ohio/Central Catholic) and Charles Rogers (Iowa City, Iowa/West) say they will visit Michigan State on Sunday, and possibly linebacker Joe Bolden (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain). It would not be surprising if O’Connor receives an offer from the Spartans this weekend.
The Ohio State basketball team hosts Indiana Sunday and Jim Tressel will welcome in some of the top prospects on his recruiting board.
Heading to Ohio State on Sunday having already been offered a scholarship by the Buckeyes are defensive end Adolphus Washington (Cincinnati, Ohio/Taft), defensive end/linebacker Ifeadi Odenigbo (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), defensive back Devan Bogard (Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville), defensive lineman Tommy Schutt (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and linebacker James Ross (Orchard Lake, Mich./St. Mary’s). The Spartans have offered a scholarship to all of those prospects except Bogard.
Other highly regarded prospects who plan to attend the Buckeyes’ junior day Sunday include defensive end Tom Strobel (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor), offensive lineman Benny McGowan (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) and defensive back Terry Richardson (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech).
Heading west, Brian Kelly is hosting a junior day at Notre Dame on Saturday and many prospects the Spartans are recruiting are expected to attend including Odenigbo, Richardson, defensive line teammates LaTroy Lewis (Akron, Ohio/Hoban) and Greg McMullen, tight end Sam Grant (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward), linebacker Royce Jenkings-Stone (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) and athlete Riley Bullough (Traverse City, Mich./St. Francis Catholic). Jenkins-Stone and Bullough are top Spartan targets.
The Wisconsin Badgers are hosting a junior day on Saturday too. Highly regarded prospects expected to attend include offensive lineman Jordan Diamond (Chicago, Ill./Simeon), defensive lineman Jaleel Johnson (Westchester, Ill./St. Joseeph), quarterback Wes Lunt (Rochester, Ill./Rochester), wide receiver Durron Neal (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet Jesuit) and defensive lineman Matt Godin (Detroit, Mich./Catholic Central). The Spartans have offered Diamond, Johnson and Godin.
