After landing four outstanding linebacker prospects for their 2011 recruiting class, the position is not a high priority for the Buckeyes’ 2012 class. But the Ohio State staff is still going to look to sign at least a couple great linebackers if they can get them.
One of the prospects on their radar screen is Joe Bolden (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain), one of the top class of 2012 linebacker prospects in the state of Ohio.
The 6-foot-3 and 220-pound Bolden played on special teams his
freshman year before playing linebacker the last couple of games of the
Bolden was a starter at middle linebacker his sophomore season and
made 75 plus tackles including eight sacks. He forced two fumbles and
recovered two. He had 80 plus tackles during his junior season
including five sacks, and intercepted three passes.
Bolden has scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Northwestern, Stanford, North Carolina, Arizona and Miami of Ohio.
“I’m definitely looking at all of the schools that have offered me,” Bolden said. “And I’m interested in Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Virginia, North Carolina State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin and lastly Notre Dame.”
Bolden went to one of the Buckeyes’ junior days in early January.
“I talked to them a couple days after I went up there,” Bolden said.
“I also went to three games there this season. I’m definitely
interested in them. (Ohio State) is a Big Ten school and its in-state.”
Bill Kurelic’s Comment: With the four linebackers they landed for their 2011 recruiting
class, the OSU staff can be selective looking for linebackers for 2012.
While Bolden does not have an offer from the Bucks at this point, he
is a good one and I expect him to stay on their radar.
