LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Under Armour All-American defensive back Doran Grant (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary), who made official visits to Ohio State and Michigan State, is ready to announce his college choice during the Under Armour All-American Game on Wednesday night.
“I pretty much know,” Grant said. “I’m just going to make it public in the game and that will be it. There’s not any doubts. I’m comfortable with my decision and I know I’m ready to come in and make an impact and do my thing at the school I choose.”
It has been pretty much assumed for some time that Grant would pick either Ohio State or Michigan State, and he confirmed his decision came down to those two schools.
The Buckeyes play in the Sugar Bowl on Tuesday night. The Spartans were dismantled by Alabama on Saturday, 49-7. Grant was asked if the performance by Michigan State impacted his thinking?
“It didn’t, but it kind of did,” Grant said. “Everybody was expecting it to be a battle. Michigan State had a good year. Basically everybody wanted to see what was up with it, like is it true or not. Alabama was a great opportunity to do that. They didn’t really do that so it was kind of, people are going to say their season was a fluke.
“I thought Michigan State was going to fight a little harder than that. I know I’ve been having Facebook friends, Michigan State fans texting me all these excuses like this guy was hurt, this guy didn’t play too well. I know that’s why they lost the game obviously. It is what it is.”
Grant said he will be watching the Buckeyes play on Tuesday night.
“I’ll be watching, I’m liking them a lot,” he said. “It’s a great school, a great place to be. It’s close to home. Opportunities are there for defense and possibly offense, so I’ll try to take advantage of it if I choose to go there.”
The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound Grant made approximately 20 tackles with two interceptions during his senior season. He also had 530 receiving yards with 10 touchdowns through the air and three rushing.
Kurelic’s Comment: I have said all along this one comes down to Ohio State or Michigan State. I’ve also been saying I think the Buckeyes win out, and I’m not changing my thinking now.
