CENTRAL OHIO MCDONALD’S AND JJHUDDLE GAME OF THE WEEK
HILLIARD DARBY (8-1) AT HILLIARD DAVIDSON (9-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Davidson H.S.
Last Year: Davidson won 42-0
Series: The teams have met three times prior with Davidson holding a 2-1 edge. Darby won 21-10 in 2007. Davidson is already in the playoffs in Region 3, but Darby needs a win to lock up a spot.
When Davidson has the ball: The Wildcats can win the OCC Central Division title outright and lock up a first round playoff home game with a win, but maybe more important, they can control bragging rights in Hilliard for another 12 months. Davidson’s option attack is producing 332 yards a game on the ground and 43 points. Senior RB Alex Mickley is the workhorse, having rushed for 1,026 yards and 22 TDs on 155 carries. Nick Seiffert (7 TDs) and Tyler Talbott (7 TDs) are also key contributors. QB Jimmy Curtis leads the offense and has accounted for eight TDs himself (four running, four throwing)
Darby’s defense, which is allowing 9.3 points per game, is led by LBs Matt Cyrus (51 tackles, three fumble recoveries), Cameron Kohl (71 tackles) and Jevaughan White (59 tackles); DL Tae Bradley (5.5 sacks); and DB Caleb Day (four interceptions).
When Darby has the ball: The Panthers can earn a share of the OCC Central Division title and net the school’s second playoff berth with a win. That won’t be an easy task. Like Davidson, Darby employs an option running attack that is potent. The Panthers are averaging 34.4 points and 286 yards on the ground per game. Their lone loss is a 20-19 setback to Dublin Coffman in OT. QB Matt Allen has rushed for 586 yards and 16 TDs on 115 carries and has completed 19-of-38 passes for 472 yards and six TDs. FB James Holt (523 yards, 3 TDs), SB Dante Talley (408 yards, 4 TDs) and SB Caleb Day (296 yards, 2 TDs) will all log carries.
Davidson counters with a defensive unit that’s allowing just 6.6 points per game. The Wildcats have notched two shutouts this year and only two opponents have reached double figures (none since Week 3). Davidson DE Keith Heitzman has committed to Vanderbilt. CB Casey Topp has six picks.
Who Wins: Davidson 28-14
