JJHUDDLE’S DIVISION VI POWER POLL WEEK 8

1. Delphos St. John’s (8-0)
The Blue Jays are one win away from defending their Midwest Athletic Conference title. All that stands between them and another championship is Marion Local (7-1). The two state powers will meet this week in Maria Stein with all the marbles on the table. In DSJ’s most recent win, a 49-0 shutout of Fort Recovery, RB Evan Burgei ran for 121 yards and four TDs on 13 carries. Previous:

2. Ada (8-0)
The Bulldogs, who are averaging 56 points per game, hit their average exactly in a 56-0 win over Allen East. Junior QB Konnor Baker completed 19-of-24 passes for 410 yards and 5 TDs. Ada hosts Delphos Jefferson (4-4) this week. Previous: 2

3. Marion Local (7-1)
So did Marion Local get caught looking ahead? Or did it get beat by a better team? Chalk it up to a mixture of both. That’s the only way to describe the Flyers unexpected 42-21 loss to Coldwater. ML led 21-14 at halftime, but the wheels fell off in the second half and Coldwater – playing better ball the final 24 minutes – struck for four TDs. This week we all know what awaits the Flyers – a trip from undefeated Delphos St. John’s.  Previous: 3

4. Bucyrus Wynford (8-0)
The Royals increased the state’s longest regular season winning streak to 46 games and won their 45th straight North Central Conference game with a solid 28-13 win over previously unbeaten New Washington Buckeye Central. This week Wynford hosts rival Bucyrus (5-3). Previous: 4

5. Bridgeport (8-0)
The Bulldogs recorded their third shut out of the season and beat Beallsville 42-0. Senior RB Chris Smelley ran for 160 yards and three TDs on just six carries. Now the attention turns to a meeting with fellow unbeaten Shadyside. That should be a good one. Previous:

6. Lehman Catholic (7-1)
The Cavaliers won their seventh straight with a 36-15 decision over Delphos Jefferson. Lehman led 28-0 at halftime. Senior RB Kaleb Goins ran for 128 yards and three TDs. This week the Cavs travel to Dayton Christian (5-3). Previous: 6

7. Mogadore (8-0)
The Wildcats beat Windham 41-22 thanks in part to a 102-yard interception return for a TD by junior DB Dustin Owens. This week Mogadore hosts Waterloo (4-4). Previous: 7

8. Covington (8-0)
The Buccs answered the bell and beat Cross County Conference rival and previously unbeaten Ansonia 28-21. Covington led 21-0 after the first quarter and then used a seven-minute fourth quarter drive that resulted in a 2-yard TD run by Cory Ely to ice the game. This week the Buccs host Arcanum (3-5). 9. Fremont St. Joseph (8-0)
The Crimson Streaks lead 35-0 and racked up 396 yards of offense in a 38-6 win over North Baltimore. This week a huge test awaits in a trip to Sycamore Mohawk (7-1).  Previous: 10

10. McComb (8-0)
The Blanchard Valley Conference leaders make their Power Poll debut after beating Arlington 40-27. QB Andrew Dee and WR Taylor Hanes came up huge against the Red Devils by connecting for four TDs. Overall, Dee completed 33-of-51 passes for 374 yards and also ran for a TD. This week the Panthers host Arcadia (3-5). Previous: NR
