JJHUDDLE’S DIVISION II POWER POLL WEEK 9

1. Mentor Lake Catholic (7-1)
The Cougars allowed points for the first time in four weeks, but still beat Parma Padua Franciscan 21-7. RB Tommy Michaels rushed for 140 yards and two TDs. This week MLC is at Akron Hoban (4-4).  Previous: 1

2. Maple Heights (8-0)
The Mustangs picked up an impressive road win with a38-21 victory at Canfield. Senior QB and Cincinnati recruit Shaq Washington threw for 159 yards and two TDs, while RB Andre Stubbs churned out 157 yards and two TDs on just five carries. He also caught three passes for 78 yards and a TD. Devonte Ransom also went over 100 yards (103) and scored a TD. This week Maple Heights is at Lorain (2-6). Previous: 2

3. Winton Woods (7-1)
The Warriors scored two TDs in each quarter en route to a 55-14 win over Milford. Junior RB Aaron Kemper ran for 218 yards and three TDs, while senior QB Thomas Owens added 166 yards and four TDs. This week Winton Woods faces a huge challenge in visiting Anderson (7-1). Previous: 3

4. Avon (8-0)
The Eagles notched their third shutout of the year with a 35-0 win over Grafton Midview. Senior QB Cody Schroeder hooked up with junior WR Matt Eckhardt three times for TDs. Eckhardt ended the game with six catches for 164 yards. This week the Eagles travel to Fairview (5-3). Previous:

5. Turpin (8-0)
The Spartans beat Walnut Hills 17-7 despite having 17 players out with injuries. The biggest loss? Senior QB Eric Martin who is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Through seven games, Martin was leading the Fort Ancient Valley Conference in passing yards (1,470) and TDs (22). He’d thrown just ONE interception. Ouch. This week Turpin is at Little Miami (4-4). 6. Howland (8-0)
The Tigers registered their fourth shutout in five weeks with a 27-0 win over Niles McKinley. Sophomore RB De’Veon Smith was again a monster, rushing for 123 yards and three TDs on 23 carries. Smith now has 1,372 yards through eight games. Defensively, the Tigers allowed just 102 total yards. This week Howland travels to Youngstown Liberty (1-7). Previous: 7

7. Marion-Franklin (8-0)
The Red Devils got a scare from Eastmoor but still managed to pull out a 34-27 win. QB Correy Benson threw for three TDs and ran for another. Paul Harris also added a 93-yard TD run in addition to catching one of Benson’s TD passes. This week M-F hosts Briggs (5-3). Previous: 8

8. New Albany (8-0)
In a match-up of unbeaten “Eagles” teams, it was New Albany that took flight in a 41-0 shutout win over Big Walnut. QB Bryan Bednarek threw for two TDs and ran for another as New Albany led 28-0 at half. This week New Albany travels to Delaware Hayes (3-5). Previous: 9

9. Copley (8-0)
The Indians rallied from a 13-10 fourth quarter deficit and scored two TDs in the final 31 seconds to beat Green 23-13.  QB Lou Gigliotti hit WR Shane Taylor for a 10-yard TD pass with 31 seconds left. Junior DB Alexander Garrett added a 44-yard interception return for a TD on the game’s final play. This week Copley hosts fellow unbeaten Tallmadge in a game that carries huge implications for both the Suburban League title and Region 5 playoff seedings. Previous:

10. Toledo Central Catholic (7-1)
The Irish dropped their first game of the year – barely – losing 21-20 to Toledo Whitmer. In the loss, senior RB Calebb Goings ran for 217 yards and a TD on 39 carries. This week TCC faces a stiff test as it hosts Akron Buchtel (6-2). Previous: 6
