in the mid 1990s.
Jakarr Sampson (6’8/2011) of Brewster Academy (NH) made his college choice today giving St. John’s a verbal commitment. This is perhaps the biggest get for the Johnnies since Felipe Lopez back in the mid 1990s.
New head coach Steve Lavin scored big with Sampson who is now trying to recruit fellow Brewster teammate Naadir Thorpe and high-flying Deuce Bello to St. John’s.
Sampson, who played his sophomore and junior seasons at Akron SVSM, transferred to Brewster back in August due to said academic reasons.
Sampson selected St. John’s over Kansas, Baylor, Tennessee, and Louisville.
Sampson averaged 14 points per game last season for the Irish helping lead SVSM to a regional runner-up.
