JJHuddle’s Division V Power Poll: Ursuline impressive; Two new teams enter Top 10


JJHuddle Power Poll Division III

Although there were a ton of impressive performances in big games last week, perhaps none around the state was as impressive as Ursuline’s 14-10 win over D-II No. 1 Mentor Lake Catholic. The Irish are a solid No.1. Who rounds out the other nine spots?




1. Youngstown Ursuline (3-0)
Any question about who the state’s top D-V (and small school) team is was answered by the Irish’s 14-10 win over D-II No. 1 Mentor Lake Catholic. Ursuline forced five turnovers. This week the victim will be Bedford (0-3). Previous: 1

2. Anna (3-0)
The Rockets posted yet another impressive win, this one their first victory ever over Coldwater, 38-28. Anna led 35-14 in the second half. Things don’t get any easier this week with a trip to D-VI No. 1 and undefeated Delphos St. John’s. Expect that one to be packed – it’s Saturday night in Delphos. Oh yeah, next week, Anna gets Marion Local. Previous: 2

3. Oak Hill (3-0)
The Oaks didn’t get much of a challenge from Rock Hill which fell 37-0. This week a much stiffer test awaits with Wellston coming to town. The Rockets are just 1-2 but have lost to undefeated Minford and Gallia Academy. In Week 5 the Oaks face Minford. Previous: 3

4. Cuyahoga Heights (3-0)
The Redskins kept their torrid pace by blasting Burton Berkshire 49-6. Junior QB Alex Zander completed 7-of-10 passes for 174 yards and two TDs. This week CH hits the road for a game at winless Newbury. Previous: 4

5. Patrick Henry (3-0)
The Patriots are averaging 42.6 points per game and just beat Montpelier 49-7. Lucas Rosebrook led the attack by rushing for 230 yards and three TDs. This week the offense should explode again at home against Liberty Center (1-2). Previous: 5

6. Lima Central Catholic (2-1)
The T-Birds rolled to a 55-7 win over Paulding with junior QB Tyler O’Connor accounting for 28 points. O’Connor threw three TD passes, ran for another score and kicked four PATs. This week LCC gets a good road test at Columbus Gove (2-1).  Previous: 6

7. Fredericktown (3-0)
The Freddies notched a huge 42-14 non-league win over fellow D-V playoff program Ashland Crestview. This week Fredericktown hits the road for its third road game this season at Johnstown-Northridge (1-2). Previous: 7

8. North Union (3-0)
The Wildcats had a close call against Marion Pleasant but edged the Spartans 17-13. This week North Union hosts Northmor (1-2). Previous: 9

9. Kirtland (3-0)
The Hornets made short work of Bay Village Bay last week with a 54-13 win. Senior QB Paul Guhde threw two TDs and ran for two more in the rout. This week Kirtland visits Hawken (1-2). Next week a road trip to undefeated and No. 4 Cuyahoga Heights awaits. Previous: NR

10. West Jefferson (3-0)
The Rough Riders, led by Charlie Ramey (two TDs), beat London 34-18. They make their Power Poll debut this week and should stay there with winless Berne Union up next. Previous: NR

DROPPED OUT: No. 8 Northwood (lost 18-12 to Hopewell-Loudon); No. 10. Ready (lost 48-21 to Licking Valley)
