JJHuddle Power Poll Division II

Mentor Lake Catholic dropped a 14-10 decision at Youngstown Ursuline, but was that enough to drop the Cougars from No. 1 in the JJHuddle Division II Power Poll? And if it was, who should be No. 1? Talk about competitive, D-II might be the most wide open division in the state after three weeks.

JJHUDDLE’S DIVISION II POWER POLL WEEK 4

1. Mentor Lake Catholic (2-1)
The Cougars lost last week and are still No. 1? Yes. How many other teams would win at Youngstown Ursuline? You can probably count them on your two hands. Five turnovers and a horrible first half offense did in the Cougars who fell 14-10. This week things don’t get any easier with another road trip to undefeated contender Walsh Jesuit. We’ll see in a couple days if MLC deserves this ranking. Previous: 1

2. Maple Heights (3-0)
The Mustangs have outscored foes 141-29 this season. In their most recent win – a 61-8 rout of Valley Forge – MH’s RB Devonte Ransom rushed for 210 yards and three TDs on just seven carries. This week the Mustangs hit the road for the third time this season and take on Cleveland Heights (1-2). Previous: 2

3. Winton Woods (2-1)
After their opening loss to Elder, the Warriors have put 102 points on the board, including 53 in their most recent victory – a 53-6 dismantling of Fairfield. This week is a good measuring stick for the Warriors as D-III No. 2 Columbus Watterson comes to town. Previous: 4

4. Trotwood-Madison (3-0)
The Rams have yet to look as talented as their roster suggests. That being said, they are still undefeated thanks to last week’s 24-16 win over Beavercreek. This week things get decidedly tougher with a trip to Wayne (1-2). Previous: 3

5. Avon (3-0)
The Eagles have allowed just three points this year and have recorded back-to-back shutouts, the latest a 23-0 win over Lorain in which they allowed 46 total yards. This week Rocky River (1-2) visits. Previous: 5

6. Turpin (3-0)
The Spartans crushed Indian Hill 50-0. Senior QB Eric Martin has thrown for 646 yards and 10 TDs thus far. He’s also rushed for two more TDs. RB Will Stocker (384 yards rushing, two TDs) is a perfect compliment. Cincinnati Northwest (2-1) visits this Friday. Previous: 6

7. Toledo Central Catholic (3-0)
The Irish survived a difficult test at Indiana big school power Mishawaka Penn (won 10-7). This week winless Start awaits. Previous: 7

8. Warren Howland (3-0)
The Tigers beat D-I rival Warren Harding 25-22 in the schools first meeting since 1998. This week Howland faces a struggling but dangerous Canfield (1-2) club on the road. Previous: 8

9. Marion-Franklin (3-0)
The Red Devils overcame a 7-6 halftime deficit and notched a huge 12-7 road win at fellow D-II power Ashland. Winless Independence awaits. Previous: 9

10. Uniontown Lake (3-0)
The Blue Streaks made a huge statement by handing previously unbeaten and then D-I No. 3 Canton McKinley its first loss (21-14). Now Lake gets to tackle another D-I in visiting Boardman (2-1), which is coming off a win over Akron Hoban. Previous: NR

DROPPED OUT: No. 10 Ashland (lost 12-7 to No. 9 Marion-Franklin)

KEEP ANY EYE ON:
Walsh Jesuit (3-0); Dayton Carroll (3-0); New Albany (3-0); Ashland (2-1); Lexington (3-0); Copley (3-0)
