Jalen Ragland (6’6/2011) of Chillicothe committed to UTEP on Sunday following a visit to El Paso, Texas this past weekend.
The city really wowed the southeast Ohio prospect.
“The city was great,” Ragland mentioned. “It’s ranked the second safest city with a population over 500,000. If your car breaks down, it surprises me if the first car that goes by doesn’t stop and help.”
The coaching was also a plus.
“Coach (Tim) Floyd is a great coach,” Ragland believes. “He was a head coach in the NBA with the (Chicago) Bulls and (New Orleans) Hornets. UTEP gives me the best chance of playing after college, and I just clicked with the staff. They fit my style of play perfectly with the up-and-down, four guards and one big man style.”
“The facilities were just unbelievable,” Ragland said. “The fan support is unbelievable, and they have a 12,222-seat arena which they sell out regularly.”
How did you know this was the perfect fit?
“After I committed, I was walking around El Paso with UTEP gear on and there were citizens excited and congratulating me already,” the Chillicothe senior admitted. “It just felt right and I believe Coach Floyd is going to bring the program to the top.”
Ragland selected the Miners over Duquesne and Tulane along with other offers from Wright State, Marshall, Ohio University, Kent State, Eastern Kentucky, Chattanooga, Bowling Green, Miami (OH), IUPUI, Morehead State, and Mercer.
