JJHuddle’s Division V Power Poll: No one drops out, but there is shuffling

The Top 3 teams in the Division V Power Poll remain the same, although one of them lost thier QB. Hamilton Badin senior Patrick Coyne, a UC recruit, broke his collar bone in the Rams 29-8 win over Woodward. Overall only one team in the preseason poll lost and they still stayed ranked this week.


1. Youngstown Ursuline (1-0)
The Irish pitched a 40-0 shutout against Cleveland East Tech. Ahead 33-0 at half, Ursuline played its JV and freshmen in the second. Things will get decidely more difficult this week with Bethlehem (Pa.) Catholic coming to Youngstown. Previous: 1

2. Hamilton Badin (1-0)
The Rams beat Cincinnati Woodward 29-8 in a Thursday night game, but they lost senior QB and UC recruit Patrick Coyne to a broken collarbone in the process. Senior Jeff Smith now steps in at QB after being a starting receiver. Coyne hopes to return in Week 7 or 8. Cincinnati Taft is on tap this week. Previous: 2

3. Oak Hill (1-0)
The Oaks fell behind 7-0 but then slapped 35 unanswered points on the board for a 35-7 win over Chesapeake. Westen Hale became the school’s all-time leading rusher as well after rushing for 116 yards on 18 carries. Wheelersburg comes calling this week. Previous: 3

4. Anna (1-0)
Listening to the final minutes of the Rockets 29-7 win over Lehman Catholic last Friday seemed to reinforce that this preseason pick was pretty good. Now Anna gets another chance to make a statement with Sherwood Fairview heading south on I-75 this Friday. Previous: 5

5. Cuyahoga Heights (1-0)
Led by four rushing TDs by Alec Torgerson, the Redskins handled Cincinnati Taft 37-14.  Fairview Park is on the docket this week. Previous: 6

6. Patrick Henry (1-0)
QB Gabe Jones led the Patriots to a 46-20 win over St. Charles (Mich.) by dominating with his arm and legs. Jones ran for 188 yards and two TDs on 21 carries and completed 10-of-14 passes for 171 yards and three more scores. A road trip to Swanton lies ahead. Previous: 7

7. Lima Central Catholic (0-1)
The T-Birds got overwhelmed at Delphos St. John’s 34-14. A lot of teams will suffer that fate this season though. Might have been closer had senior RB Taylor Royster played. This week LCC gets Convoy Crestview which lost 40-18 to Parkway. Previous: 4

8. Fredericktown (1-0)
The Freddies had to overcome a 14-3 deficit, but they rallied for a 17-14 win over Sparta Highland. This week’s game at Berne Union should be decidedly easier. Previous: 8

9. Northwood (1-0)
The Rangers, led by Zach Bermejo (rushed seven times for 155 yards and three TDs), blanked Kansas Lakota 36-0. Millbury Lake awaits this week. Previous: 9

10. North Union (1-0)
The Wildcats were steady and prolific in a 26-0 win over Fairbanks. Now they get a crack at Sparta Highland.  Previous: 10
