The student-athletes are back in class and we here at the MVP Podcast are kicking off the 2010 football season with a potential barnburner of a Week 1 Game of the Week: Delphos St. John’s hosting Lima Central Catholic.

Delphos lost in the last five seconds of last year’s OHSAA state final to Norwalk and most of those players are back this fall with the intention to set the record straight.

They are ranked No. 1 statewide in the preseason JJHuddle Power Poll for D-VI.

Veteran DSJ head coach, Todd Schulte, is here.

Lima Central Catholic is ranked No. 4 in the initial D-V Power Poll and their head coach, Jerry Cooper, is here to plead the Thunderbirds’ case as well.

Both are excellent interviews.

Finally, we have Dr. Mike Pignatello on hand to talk about kicking and special teams. He has agreed to help us here at the MVP Podcast track special teams this fall and we couldn’t be happier about it.

An NCAA champion personally, he knows what he is talking about. He played for the Dayton Flyers’ first national championship team in 1980 as both a punter and as a place kicker.

This is a wonderfully rambling discussion that touches on a wide variety of topics–but, we also identify the Miami Valley’s best kickers and special team players.

And in the coming days we’ll do the same for the rest of the state.

What else would you expect from the MVP Podcast and where else, exactly, would you find it?

Enjoy…
