Last year we debuted the JJHuddle/NBC 4 Central Ohio Power Poll to the applause (and jeers) of many. This year we continue with an encore.

Today we release the Top 5 teams in each of our D- I/II, D-III/IV and D-V/VI polls. We also have a “Next Five” listed.

Enjoy, argue and debate.

We’ll update the polls every Monday for release on JJHuddle and during the NBC 4 newscasts.

DIVISIONS I-II

1. Dublin Coffman
Not a unanimous pick or a popular one according to some JJHuddle members, but the Rocks do indeed open up at No. 1. After a three-game opening slate against playoff teams from last year (Liberty, Westerville South and Brookhaven) we’ll see who is eating crow.
Opener: 8/27 @ Olentangy Liberty

2. Pickerington Central
Some think this is Central Ohio’s top team by far. We’ll find out soon. There’s no denying the talent level this team possesses.
Opener: 8/28 vs Plainfield (Indiana) at Warren Central Classic

3. Westerville South
The Wildcats have a powerful presence in running back Jayshon Jackson.
Opener: 8/28 @ Groveport-Madison

4. Hilliard Davidson
Is it possible a team that’s coming off it’s second state title in four years is under the radar?
Opener: 8/27 @ Grove City

5. Brookhaven
The Bearcats dropped down from D-I to D-II last year and made the regional finals.  A return trip is a real possibility.
Opener: 8/27 vs Marion-Franklin

The Next Five
Pickerington North
Lancaster
Marion-Franklin
Upper Arlington
Olentangy Orange

DIVISIONS III-IV

1. DeSales
The Stallions were D-III state runner-up last year and have every intention of getting back to Stark County. A stacked offensive backfield helps the cause.
Opener: 8/27 @ Gahanna-Lincoln

2. Watterson
Injuries took a toll on the Eagles during two-a-days, but this roster is deep – and talented.
Opener: 8/27 vs Akron SVSM

3. Eastmoor
Head coach Jim Miranda has led the Warriors to a state championship game. Now he needs to match that state title he won as a girls basketball head coach. Senior Ron Tanner is a stud.
Opener: 8/27 @ Northland

4. Hartley
The return of 14 starters, a three-year QB and a RB that had 20 TDs last year are all good signs.
Opener: 8/27 vs Amanda-Clearcreek

5. Jonathan Alder
This year the push is to win a playoff game. Standout DL Brandon Purdum and QB Graham Johnston make that a real possibility.
Opener: 8/27 @ Thomas Worthington

The Next Five
Logan Elm
Amanda-Clearcreek
Utica
Sparta Highland
Bexley

DIVISIONS V-VI

1. Fredericktown
New coach, new quarterback, new running back…same results? We think so.
Opener: 8/27 @ Sparta Highland

2. North Union
Last season was a historic one for North Union. This year all signs point to the fall being even better.
Opener: 8/27 @ Fairbanks

3. Ready
This year’s senior class looks to end their careers with four playoff trips.
Opener: 8/27 @ Franklin Heights

4. West Jefferson
Scrimmages are just scrimmages, but West Jefferson has looked GOOD in theirs.
Opener: 8/27 vs Mechanicsburg

5. Newark Catholic
Can the Green Wave match their basketball and baseball counterparts from last year and make a run to the state championship?
Opener: 8/27 @ Harvest Prep

The Next Five
Columbus Academy
Liberty Union
Grove City Christian
Centerburg
Mechanicsburg
